Bump and Update: Tom Tancredo has announced he's running for Governor. NPR asks, "Can You Say Governor Hickenlooper?"

Former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo has given an ultimatum to Scott McInniss and Dan Maes: Either exit the Governor's race by noon Monday, or he'll run as a third party candidate for the American Constitution Party. He says his goal it to prevent Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, from winning. [More...]

McInnis is not likely to fold. Which means in November, the Republican vote will be split, which makes Hickenlooper a shoo-in.

While I doubt Hickenlooper would run ads replaying "Bomb Mecca" and "Impeach Obama," I wouldn't be surprised if McInnis did.

So what do Republicans do? Wait until after the primary and put in one Ken Buck or Jane Norton, one of the two Republicans vying for the Senate seat held by Michael Bennet?

Despite his awful position on immigration, Tancredo is pretty entertaining. He's also against the war on drugs. If he runs, maybe we'd actually hear candidates debating it.

I'm not convinced he'll enter the race. He isn't stupid and he knows he wouldn't win. His campaign for President a few years ago really tired him out. Maybe he's recouped his energy, but I don't see him looking forward to the grueling travel schedule of a statewide race. Maybe he's just trying to get Republicans moving on Buck or Norton. (It's too late for write-in names for the August primary, but as soon as that's over, if McInnis dropped out, Republicans would get to pick his successor. Tancredo also knows Republicans wouldn't pick him.)

    Husband, doggy, and myself returned Sunday from southwest-Colorado variation loop (from home in Denver to Salida to Montrose to Ouray to Telluride to Gateway/Grand Junction to Vail and back.) Mixed in with all of our state's wonderful sights & experiences was the signage for McInnis (and Republican Senate candidate Jane Norton.) While that was a bit of a blight, I had to remind myself that Grand Junction and area serves as the home of McInnis (and Norton.) Oh, oculus, the NY Philharmonic's Sibelius #2 and Beethoven's 4th piano in Vail were delicious...beautiful breeze, deep green trees against mountain twilight.

    His political schtick borders on the offensive, and often crosses that frontier with hate speech that panders to his GOP base's worst fears and instincts.

    Don't follow the guy much, but what I have seen is unacceptable, imo.

    Having only lived in blue states & districts (NY & CA), I feel somewhat secure I won't have to deal with this crap too much on a more local level, but as time wears on, it get's more iffy in that respect . . . in my new (recently moved states to CA again) Dem 'hood, I have a McCain bumper sticker across the street and a Tea Party one around the corner. Oy, new territory for me, lol!~

    I also was a year behind Sonia Sotomayor (only knew her by name), and was classmates with John  Thain (Goldman) AND Jeff Skilling.

    Meg, though, I knew much better, although we haven't been in touch for quite a few Reunions.

    has been haunting our Farmer's Market since the primary. It's pretty funny watching her try and  get folks to listen :P I do find it interesting that she has a constant booth here . . .

    And her commercials are actually bonding my mom (R) and I. Mom's reading through her BS just fine . . .

    On an audio tape obtained by The Denver Post, Buck was caught muttering "will you tell those dumba---s at the Tea Party to stop asking questions about birth certificates while I'm on the camera? outside a June 11 event in Crowley.

    ...and it will cost him.  I don't think it will be either Buck or Norton (whichever one losses the primary).  If Penry hadn't sold his soul to shill for Norton, he might of had a chance.  I'll bet he's kicking himself for dropping out (or lettting himself be bought off) so early in the race.  Doesn't really matter who it is in the end though, they won't have a chance at winning.

    McInnis wins the primary--barely, and after it becomes apparent that he can't win, drops out. If the relationship between Tancredo and the R party isn't totally effed, he agrees to drop out and the Rs replace McInnis with some other Republican.

    I don't see how the Rs would pull this one out, though.
