Bump and Update: Closing arguments are over. The jury will be instructed and begin deliberating tomorrow. After court was over, Patti Blagojevich burst into tears and Rod told reporters as he was leaving, ""I hope you have a prayer left for us."

Another line from Sam Adam, Jr. in closing: "“As much as I like him, and as much as he’s loved around the world, this is a man who considered appointing Oprah Winfrey (to the U.S. Senate),” Adam said. “No one’s going to say he’s the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he’s not corrupt.” [More...]

Bump and Update: The Government objected 18 times during Sam Adam's argument. Not all were sustained. One nugget:
Adams, Jr: "We heard yaking on the tapes. Put Joan and Melissa Rivers in a room and you wouldn't hear that much talk. He's an insecure man"
And some differing rulings:
...govt says "that was not evidence". Judge says the jury will decide what is evidence .... Prosecutor Schar jumps up and yells "mistatement of facts." Judge agrees.

The best way to follow Sam Adam, Jr.'s closing argument in the Rod Blagojevich case is on Twitter using #Blagojevich. Those in the courtroom can't tweet, but I guess those in the overflow courtroom can.

WBEZ politics has this up so far: Adam addressed Blago's not taking the stand with “I had no idea - no idea - that in two months of trial they would prove nothing.”

He took on Jesse Jackson, Jr: “And you know who didn’t get arrested? Jesse Jackson, Jr.”

The Government is making a lot of objections and they are being sustained. " Zagel tells [Adam] to be "more precise."

    anything is possible.  But that would be such a travesty of justice -- and I fear, from talking with some Chitowners, that your family is typical.

    Of course, wouldn't it be fascinating to find out the answer to the age-old question in these parts:  Just how much will it take, how many governors in jail, for Flatlanders to finally be embarrassed about it?

    Hope you arrived after the floods!  And after the heat, humidity, at its worst.  So beware the bugs and hope for breezes off the greatest lake to blow the skeeters to the next burb.

    Blago is "not the sharpest knife in the drawer", so says his lawyer.  Right - he's a stupid man so he couldn't POSSIBLY have done wrong.  Really?  This is his argument???
