Update: I lost interest after the last update. When I heard the incredibly depressing song by Jewel, I turned off the TV. Hope I didn't miss anything good.

Update: 7:33 pm: The first upset: Kyra Sedgwick (Closer) beats Julianna Margulies for Best Actress in a drama. Another good skit: the "Year in Variety" with musical acts, Colbert, and Conan. Jimmy's energy is holding.

Update: 7:04 pm: Hooray! Aaron Paul, the nominee I was rooting for the most tonight, just won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Breaking Bad. He was incredible this season as was the show. And Bryan Cranston just won again for best lead actor for the show. I'm so glad to see this show get its due.

Another great call: Archie Punjabe for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for The Good Wife. This bodes well for Julianna Margulies. The Good Wife started weak, but ended up being a really strong show.

Update: 6:47 pm: Glad to see Edie Falco win for Nurse Jackie, although Season 1 was better than Season 2. She is very good. I also liked the reality skit, especially Snooki taking Obama to task for the tanning tax. Top Chef wins. What's with all the Oprah commercials with her shrieking? Does she really do that on her show? [More...]

Update: 6:06pm: Opening number with Jimmy playing the Boss on Born to Run a la Glee was great. Tina Fey was also terrific. I'm not as crazy about his slow number, although the jab at NBC for Conan was good. (I'm only going to update highlights and some winners.)

The 2010 Emmy Awards show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, are about to begin. No tape delay, so don't worry about spoilers.

I'm rooting for Breaking Bad which was my favorite show this year -- especially Aaron Paul who is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama.

funniest emmy opening in years. tho the "comedy" clips preceding the best supporting actor were too cute for the room and slowed things down.

Nor do I intend to, so this might not be as interesting to me as I thought it might be. Plus a lot of awards were given out earlier. This show seems to be geared toward canned network tv. But I do like Jimmy Fallon as host.

you're missing out on modern family, jeralyn. chris lloyd, the creator, created fraiser as well as worked on wings and golden girls, it's brilliantly funny.

I'll try watching Modern Family again this year. Tried it once last season and didn't get into it.

I loved the opening too- but not much else abort the show itself. Reading tweets? Please.

the Closer as well as the Good Wife and The Mentalist, tho not all of them are winners...also love the show about the mystery writer riding along with the homicide squad in NYC (Castle)...that is a great show IMO...

Sounds like you like cop shows. you should try a lawbreaker show sometime, where the lawbreakers are good and bad -- like Breaking Bad. The only cop show I watch is Justified, because the bad guys are often better than the good guys and the lead, Timothy Olyphant, is great to look at. I loved Cane with Jimmy Smits for the same reason, but it only lasted a new season. He'll be back this year in a show where he quits being a judge and starts helping the bad guys get some legal justice. That'll be a good show.

Most of the time, in the law breaker shows, the criminals are glorified when they should not be.

heads up about some of the new stuff...Yeah I do like cop shows but with a twist of humor like Castle or the Mentalist...

You are right about Castle. There is a nice touch of humor in that show (and one of the few decent examples of an American mystery).

Funny though, I do not feel the same about the mentalist. I like it, but I find that the character Jane gets on my nerves. He is such a cold hearted jerk at times.

the Temple Grandin movie - Julia Ormond, Claire danes, David Strathairn, as well as the producer and director. And also Al Pacino won for his portrayal of Jack Kavorkian. All of those speeches were good. And Temple Grandin and Kavorkian in the audience were great. It was nice to see some sincerity.

modern family, but I've been meaning to, I hear it's really good.

I was happy Jane Lynch won. Glee is somewhat cheesy but she steals the show every time. And she seemed genuinely surprised/excited/happy to win.
