    Harsh Reality Monday... (5.00 / 2) (#1)
by kdog on Mon Aug 30, 2010 at 11:38:57 AM EST
After a dream weekend in the country...beautiful weather, sleeping next to an open fire, cooking over an open fire, bathing in a beautiful ice cold creek, rip roaring Americana music at Levon's...that was livin' people!

Steve Earle showed up as a special guest on the 5 yr. anniversary of Hurrican Katrina...played his beautiful song about New Orleans, "This City" w/ Levon and the band, as well as a sick cover of the Stones "Sweet Virginia". They played "All on Mardi Gras Day" without Mr. Earle too as a moving tribute.  Opened with a "Ophelia" and "The Shape I'm In" and we never looked back...what a magical place with the best kinda music and people.  Band leader Larry Cambell absolutely killed the solo intro to "Chest Fever".  Legendary sax and tuba player Howard Johnson sang a tune I can't recall, but that was another highlight in a night full of 'em.  Levon's voice was off, so the audience all chipped in on his vocal numbers, but the old f*cker can still bang them skins like nobody's business, for a 2 1/2 hour set no less...damn!  His daughter Amy Helm has got the pipes in the family now...that girl can sing something fierce.

    Wow, wow, wow....

I never have to wonder if you (none / 0) (#3)

And that I still miss Richard and Rick..

Though I still feel their spirits hoverin' around. As long as there's still good music and people singing from the heart..

    or the whole world should.

Their spirits were definitely hovering around the barn my man...Levon carries the torch for the both of them, and countless other departed legends of Americana music.

I was thinking of you as I was sitting in the concrete jungle...

Nice weather here too, just missing the stream, open fire, cooking and nature...

Also Woodstock is nice as it both nature and the hub of the cappuccino belt... best of both worlds...

we made a quick pit stop before heading back to the concrete jungle yesterday...all the "Hippies Welcome" signs in the shops, so very cool.

Couldn't find a decent "The Band" T-Shirt though, dozens of varieties of Skynrd shirts, but hardly any for "The Band"...thought that was very odd for the home of Big Pink.

Just saw him last night in Spike Lee's new post-Katrina New Orleans documentary...the unofficial mayor of New Orleans, Dr. John.

I'd imagine the pier is a great place to catch a show too...enjoy bro!

I have disappointed no ancestor today, I am guilt free.  Nobody even recognizes today the Christian they hoped I would become.  I have had my honor restored :)  Glenn Beck had better look out for the ghost of my Great Grandmother though, but she is his problem now :)

Do you communicate with your ancestors? (none / 0) (#11)
by oculus on Mon Aug 30, 2010 at 01:36:55 PM EST
How can you verify they are not disappointed today?  Tristero at Digby says (w/o attribution) there is no such thing as a former life.  Not sure how he feels about communicating w/the deceased.

of a German Girl.  And she never smiled a day in her life.  She wasn't supposed to drive either, but she snuck off in the car and wrecked it one day.  Drove off a bridge accidentally, then told her husband to phuck himself for making her have to sneak it :)  The stories about her trying to line the car up though perfectly so it wouldn't look like anyone had driven it are hysterical.  And wrote down everything in a journal..her whole life.  My misdeeds are chronicled right after all the misdeeds of the DNA I spring from.  Her facial expressions flexed between drawn, grim, and ticked off.  If her ghost isn't following me around why do I still feel her eyes boring into the back of my thick skull :)?  Beck had better be careful, she'll curse him with hemmorrhoids requiring surgery AGAIN!

Preemptive arrest, for putting mock bomb in luggage...

    Hmmm.

Two men taken off a Chicago-to-Amsterdam United Airlines flight in the Netherlands have been charged by Dutch police with "preparation of a terrorist attack," U.S. law enforcement officials tell ABC News.

Airport security screeners in Birmingham, Alabama first stopped al Soofi and referred him to additional screening because of what officials said was his "bulky clothing."

In addition, officials said, al Soofi was found to be carrying $7,000 in cash and a check of his luggage found a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle, three cell phones taped together, several watches taped together, a box cutter and three large knives. Officials said there was no indication of explosives and he and his luggage were cleared for the flight from Birmingham to Chicago O'Hare.
