Obama To Discuss His Middle Class Tax Cuts Proposal this Afternoon

The President has to stay on the issue of his middle class tax cuts and the GOP attempt to hold them hostage in favor of tax cuts for the rich. And it looks like he will:

The White House has added an event to today's schedule for President Obama. An administration source tells TPM that Obama should be expected to mention the tax cuts debate raging on Capitol Hill.

Stick to your guns Mr. President. He did, hammered the Republicans. Now what to do about the Blue Dogs?

Speaking for me only

Since he has not yet threatened a veto, he has already ceeded to the GOP?

    Did I get that right?

    ...

Middle-class families need the "relief" from tax benefits, Obama says, calling the tax cuts for them "right." He adds: "We don't have time for any more games. I understand there's an election coming up. But the American people didn't send us here to think about our jobs. They sent us here to think about theirs."

Obama wraps up, thanking lawmakers again for acting on the small-business bill. "I hope we can work together to do the same thing on middle-class tax relief in the weeks to come," he says.

Walking back to the White House with his cabinet, Obama ignores shouted questions from reporters, including one on whether Obama would veto a bill if it included tax cuts for the rich.

has to resist the urge to help the Blue Dogs do what is WRONG. The Congressmen from MS and GA are pushing to extend all the tax cuts because they don't want to be tarred with the epithet "tax increaser". But tell me truly, how does letting the tax rates increase on the rich folks make those Congressmen less attractive to the voters in those two relatively poor states?  It's a stupid argument and if Pelosi goes along with a compromise, she should lose the Speakership.

"For this pair, one press release announcing their opposition to Obama's plan was not enough. They were two of 31 jittery Democrats who signed a letter urging Pelosi, D-Calif., and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., to abandon the Obama plan and extend to everyone the Bush-era tax cuts due to expire at the end of the year, according to one of its authors, Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah."
