Latest DEA Statement on Marijuana Policy

There were at least 14 DEA raids on medical marijuana dispensaries in Washington state today. More than a dozen people were arrested.

Tonight, DEA Special Agent in Charge Matthew Barnes issued this statement:

"The DEA will exercise its investigative authority to pursue criminal actions for any violation of federal law, when warranted. This includes investigating organizations or individuals that grow, manufacture or distribute any illegal drug to include marijuana, and those who rent or maintain a property to facilitate drug trafficking."

    Its almost as if Obama (5.00 / 1) (#1)

Has a checklist of every constituency that gave him his incredible election victory and assuring that each and every one gets thrown under the bus in time for his re-election bid.

I don't know, it's a new strategy on me, but, who knows, he's the "political genius," so, we'll see.

Of course, there's another possibility. Maybe he's using his billion dollar war chest to surreptitiously funnel money to the republican candidates. As long as that flock of looney birds remain visible to the American public, quacking and regurgitating their venomous tripe, Obama has a chance.

it's comforting to know that all the country's major problems have been solved: we're out of afghanistan & Iraq; the nation's critical infrastructure has all been brought up to date; our school systems are educating at peak efficiency: every citizen has health care for life; the unemployment rate is .0001%; the financial industry has been cleaned up; the budget is balanced and the national debt retired.

the only important thing left is shutting down all the medicinal marijuana stores, and the country will be secure.

makes one proud to a murkin!

It's three agencies of government, when i get there, that are gone; commerce, education and the ah, ah, ah, DEA. Yeah that's right. The DEA.

This is just sad and very stupid, IMO (none / 0) (#4)

Gov. Gregoire signed into law the allowance for medical marijuana use and dispensaries. Gil Kerlikowki -- our former Seattle Police Chief -- and Pres. Obama are really barking up the wrong tree here. This move just looks callous on their part, to say the least. And there is currently a petition drive going to get a decriminalization measure on the next ballot. From everything I've seen, Washingtonians are mostly in favor and such an initiative would pass. I don't understand why Obama is wasting time and precious resources busting the dispensaries!

What I don't understand is why now, what's behind this? With a majority of americans apparently willing to see marijuana legalized, and in California, where it is all but legal, why is this happening? Can someone please offer a credible explanation or theory?
