"I know that I had a lot of help. Offensive line did a great job, and receivers stepped up and made me look a lot better than I really am," said Tebow, who completed 10 of 15 passes, his best percentage as an NFL starter, and posted a career-high passer rating of 149.3.

A few more comments like that and the T-Man's got another fan.

the hype. On field he was a loud-mouthed, tantrum throwing child - just like many other 24 year old millionaires in the NFL. Post game he was all, ah shucks, I'm just a regular guy. Again, just like many of his peers.

As to his performance, the passer rating was good but he only made 15 attempts. The rookie QB on the other side out threw him by nearly 200 yards, and I didn't see him on TV screaming at his teammates when bad things like INTs happened. Maybe he should try that approach to get some love - or maybe move to a team that isn't a joke.

When I saw the NFC North was lined up against the AFC West, I thought the Packers had one of the easiest schedule in football.  But then I reminded myself that every team in the AFC West has an easier schedule.

I believe Tebow has beaten one team that is over 500, the Jets.

I have had the pleasure of watching Tebow twice and he is exciting to watch, like yesterday.  The problem of course is that they had to mount a serious comeback from an 2-10 team, a team they should have thrashed.

that I should censor myself. I made a few basic points about Tebow:
I've never seen him play before; I wasn't impressed with the performance I saw, either as a player or as a person; and I based on yesterday's game I don't understand the hype.

I made a couple points about the Vikings and Ponder:
The Vikings are a joke; and If Ponder wants to get noticed for his performance as a player he either needs to adopt Tebow's public persona or needs to get on a team that isn't a joke.

What part of this is worthy of the Winston Smith treatment?

Tebow being drafted by the Broncos (none / 0) (#23)
by jimakaPPJ on Mon Dec 05, 2011 at 10:29:55 AM EST
was widely discussed/criticized because it wasn't thought he would make a NFL quarterback because of his playing "style." That is, he is more of a running QB vs a drop back passer. That was/is a valid comment because of the more physical nature of the pros vs college play. And the possibility he may be injured because of his style of play.

But the criticism ignored that he was a proven winner and a leader. Those are special qualities that go beyond the mechanics of the game. His team mates play at or often above their "usual" talent level because they believe he will do "something" that will let them win.

As football is very much a team game, that belief is very important.

So far his critics are wrong. I suspect he will become more of a pocket passer as time goes on.

He was/is also a person who is not afraid to display his faith in public. I think this makes many people uncomfortable so they look for a reason to criticize him.

At present he is talking the talk and walking the walk in both the game and his faith.

I wish him well and success in his game and faith.

although I saw no evidence of it on the field yesterday. What I saw was a Broncos team nearly lose to one of the worst teams in the NFL, and the only reason that didn't happen was the Denver defense.

As I said, this game being my only exposure to Tebow's performance as a player, I don't get the hype. YMMV

Lots of back & forth on Monday mornings in Denvertown these days. Since I grew to become a Tebow fan--officially during the Chargers game--my neighbor is shocked at my new fan-dom. Denver is a football town; the usual commentary is nothing new...unless it is the Tebow thing now. As I said a week or so ago, it is different (we all know that) and against expected form (we know that too) and, mostly at this point, fun.

So...the neighbor keeps saying "but, oh, the opponents, blah, blah." And, my response: Bottom-line record; were the other five opponents also the worst. BTW, everyone is aware that "on any given day" the poor/bad/not-so-hot team wins, especially if it means something (& my understanding is that it really was a need-to for Minneapolis in more ways than one.) Heck, even the perfect Green Bay doubled down to beat the Jets (y'know that team that Denver beat.)

It is fun. And, on this limited matter...ta da...I agree with jimaka. It would be not unexpected for Tebow to improve the passing skills compatible with the southpaw situation. Heck, it even took a few pro-years for Elway to develop, as we might tend to forget over the years.

scoring on one of them, and winning the game with a last minute interception. That defense.

As opposed to the Denver offense, with 13 first downs, 3/11 on third down conversions, only 180 yards in the air, and 150 yards on the ground.

Without the score from the Denver d and the interceptions, the Broncos lose.

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - The yearlong Texas drought is taking a heartbreaking toll on horses and donkeys, thousands of which have been abandoned by owners who can no longer afford the skyrocketing price of the hay needed to feed them.

"We get 20 to 40 calls a week that horses are alongside the road and left; nobody's claimed them," Richard Fincher of Safe Haven Equine Rescue in Gilmer, in east Texas, told Reuters. "Sheriffs are calling us all the time."

Before this year, he would get more like three or four calls a week, he said.

    [snip]

Horse abandonment is a crime, and state law requires abandoned horses to be held by the local sheriff's department for 18 days, he said. After that, most are sold at a sale barn for whatever prices they can bring.

Fincher said he expects the problem to continue.

-- Texas drought leaves heartbreaking toll of abandoned horses

This will really become a problem when the planet starts abandoning humans. Starting in Texas?

This just goes to prove (once again) that the BCS is about the size a team's fan base, and its TV market, and not its BCS ranking. In other words, the BCS rankings are a huge sham, designed to fool people into allowing a few conferences to continue to make the most money from college football.

Michigan State should have gotten the Rose Bowl last year and would have under the old conference rules.  The conference rules were changed the season before to send the team with the highest BCS ranking.

This year State committed the sin of playing in the conference championship game.

I can understand the BCS deciding the participants in the national championship game but for conferences to voluntarily give away autonomy to BCS standings is a real crock and in the long run doesn't help the conference become more competitive.

Now we'll play on January 2nd while two other bowls are in progress and THOSE people will get a prime time gig all to themselves.
