    Morehead State, baby! (none / 0) (#1)
by Dadler on Fri Mar 18, 2011 at 11:26:09 AM EST
Kenneth Faried is a lottery pick.  Kid has asthma and played at 5000 feet, and dominated inside.

The fact that either Richmond or Morehead St. are Sweet 16 bound is, well, sweet.

Today's upset will be a veteran Oakland team beating a very young Texas squad.

Relax, my Aztecs, you've got your first win.  Now settle down and rip it up.

And for every underdog who's ever been taunted and teased and disrespected, watch this and take note.  Reality is a tough baby.  Peace.

Sigh, looks like Texas will survive (none / 0) (#9)

Oakland should move to the Bay Area, I need another team to watch.

Louisville killed me again. (none / 0) (#2)

After every tournament I tell myself I will never trust that team again.  But then the next tournament rolls around, the brackets come out.  I consider their coach and players.  I look at their schedule strength, who they beat, are they playing well at the end of the year...blah blah blah.  I then talk myself into riding them far into the tournament again...just to get burned one more time.  Ugh!  When will I learn.

    Go Bucks.

    All season.

Knew there could be problems but still had hope.

The pre-season ranking ignored the facts on the ground.

    Still, it smarts.

to fill out the brackets - just too distracted, maybe, or realistic about the fact that I NEVER do well.

Lots of moaning and groaning in the office both yesterday afternoon and again this morning as people's brackets crashed all over the place.

    Glad I saved my $10... :-)

    SDSU lookes like sh*t yesterday (none / 0) (#7)
by Dadler on Fri Mar 18, 2011 at 01:11:27 PM EST
So I have to give you that.  My only consolation is when it seemed like they finally had that first tourney win, the monkey off their back, that they finally relaxed and spread the lead and ended the game on an up not aside from the raw W.

BYU and Gonzaga is gonna be odd.  One because it's a preview of next year's newest WCC marquee matchup (what the PHUCK is BYU doing in the WCC of all places, just a embarrassing move by them).  And two because Gonzaga is actually peaking at the right time.  I have been very impressed with them the last few games, and have to take back my overrated moniker.  Might be the first year in many that they've been underrated.  I like them over BYU as I'm sure you do, and I actually like them big.

Temple/SDSU.  I have no idea what to expect from SDSU in the nerves department.  They have a tendency to get too wound up.  We shall see, but I like the matchups player-wire.

I've has season tickets for USD for four years (none / 0) (#25)
by Dadler on Fri Mar 18, 2011 at 06:10:05 PM EST
Know West Coast Conference basketball as well as anyone you could be chatting with.  I say they should be embarrassed because they are a HUGE school that plays football and the WCC is made up of small Catholic schools that don't play footballs, except for USD which plays non-scholarship FCS ball.  They have far more resources at their disposal than the other schools in the WCC, and, worse, every team in the conference plays in small arenas/gyms, with Gonzaga's the biggest and it's isn't even 7000 seats.  So all these WCC teams are now supposed to go into BYU and play in the one of the largest, if not the largest, basektball arenas in the country, 20,000 seats.  On top of that, they have a much bigger alumni base and will make a lot of their road games de-facto home or neutral court games by filling what are relatively sparsely filled gyms, except for St. Mary's and Gonzaga.

They are not a cool fit for the WCC to me.  The WCC is just after money, which is fine, just don't pretend that BYU is some perfect fit.

But I think on any given day, any team can beat another.  It would be interesting to see how they would fare over a season.

More good players, more good teams... (none / 0) (#26)
by Dadler on Fri Mar 18, 2011 at 06:15:53 PM EST
...and it's such an international game now, too. It's inevitable that teams from smaller conferences are proving themselves more than able opponents of the big boys.  That and the fact that they tend to have more senior leadership, while bigger schools deal with kids leaving early, and having a veteran squad for them is a rarity these days.  Except maybe at Duke.
