Ayman al-Zawahiri to Succeed Osama Bin Laden

The General Command of al-Qaeda announced today that Ayman al-Zawahiri will succeed Osama bin Laden. Via Site Monitoring Service (subscription required):

“[We] assure every oppressed [individual] in this world – and most of them are victims of the American Western criminality – that our religion is a religion of justice and equity. We sympathize with the sufferings of the oppressed. Our jihad against American arrogance will lead to the lifting of oppression from them, and it is an effort that will help them in getting rid of the American Western exploitation that enslaved them, robbed them of their wealth, and spoiled their environment and their lives.”

The U.S. believes the statement is genuine. The statement also said the appointment was made after “consultation” and that the selection of the new leader is the “best form of gratitude” for bin Laden."

in Yemen, and hunt Al Qaeda together. I haven't read anything about that anywhere.  If Bush would have done such a thing the leftwing blogosphere would have screaming so loud you couldn't hear yourself think.

There certainly is a downside where accountability is concerned having my party in the drivers seat.

since we didn't really have anything worth a snot :)  I'm certain they were fine watching him and tracking all the coming and going for months and connecting dots.  Didn't find Zawahiri though that way.  They found a bunch though.  The first 72 hours following getting Bin Laden was full of strikes against Al Qaeda, and it continues at a fairly rapid pace even now.

kidding....they have intel on who is who with Al Qaeda in Yemen that we don't have.  They are providing us with that since because of George Bush we weren't tracking any branch of Al Qaeda for years.

That was how we came to rely on that crazy old Republican who had been running his own CIA in Pakistan, we were trying to get intel on the Haqqani network and he had some.  That didn't go so well though, we ended up with a fake Taliban Mullah running around with General Petraeus.  Who knows why certain people will be on the Saudi Royal Family's ermmm I mean Saudi Arabia's list of people we must nuke in Yemen.

MT... all the service academies, and every type of flight school has at least one Saudi prince and many Saudi officers being trained. Occasionally, Armor school, too.

Nobody in logistics, though. that's the US' job. Also infantry. We're the best army the saudis can buy, and at a bargain basement price.

My husband refuses to teach certain students from certain countries though, and if you are in uniform you can because it can be found to conflict with your oath.  If you are a civilian employee though you will teach who they tell you to teach.

Everyone who goes through flight school here though for Saudi Arabia is a lesser member of the Saudi Royal Family.  Can't have peasants behind that 50 cal, who knows who they would choose to shoot at on some days?

Some of our friends make huge money working in Saudi Arabia though as military contractors.  I have been told though that I will always feel compelled to check out the coupons that come in the mailbox.  I'm okay with that.  The only Wahhabi Muslims I've ever run into too, and boy they hate me.  Just who in the hell do I think I am to even think I can look them in the eye?

I don't blame Mr. MT at all. Why train a future adversary? Hey, did you say he made WO-5? Please give him my congrats.

My old Sergeant Major has invited me to live with him, by the way. We met in the Black Horse together when the Fulda Gap actually meant something, and ran into each other thru the years. Last I saw him was active was the USMLM in Potsdam, but he stayed and pulled two Iraq rotations in the current mess before he retired with some 36 +. I think he wanted to stay till mandatory, but was kind of pushed out of the way. Cav to the core.

I don't know... wouldn't that be a fulfilling an end time prophecy, something about officers and enlisteds lying down down together...

Or is that cats and dogs, or lions and lambs? I never could get that straight.

MT, you'll appreciate this: he has a 30 foot flagpole, an outside speaker system, and every morning at 0700 he plays a cannon shot and Call to Colors. Every evening, it's a cannon shot and evening colors.

His neighbors apparently grumble on weekends...

He could move into this neighborhood and some would love him because for some reason a bunch of Generals decided to retire into this neighborhood.  They could still feel like Generals then instead of just a pack of weedeater operators :)

They have boarded for W-5 but delayed posting the list even longer.  We are too top heavy in aviation right now.  I'm fairly certain he's on it though.  He's so competitive and self challenging, and he loves and is dedicated to his job too all at the same time.  He's going to be hard to retire.
