    I find out tomorrow (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by jeffinalabama on Tue Jul 05, 2011 at 09:17:35 PM EST
if the idiot government will allow my son, a citizen, to enter the USA.

Oculus, I'm listening to the overture of "Tannhauser."

    It seems appropriate.

    Good luck today (5.00 / 2) (#14)
by MO Blue on Wed Jul 06, 2011 at 07:36:06 AM EST
Hope you are able to find someone in the "idiot government" who is able to understand the words U.S. citizen and the fact that a citizen does have a few remaining rights such as entering the country.

I'm pretty sure the one thing (none / 0) (#5)

U.S. Immigration can't do is prevent U.S. Citizens from reentering the United States.

But then, I haven't really looked into it in a while. . .

by Peter G on Tue Jul 05, 2011 at 09:38:28 PM EST
will accompany him, right?  As Andy points out, a citizen can always enter and leave the U.S. - it's his constitutional right.  Thus, you (a citizen, right?) could go to Colombia (IIRC?) and return with him, I would think, assuming you could afford to, and that it wasn't in violation of any judicial custody order.

    Well, you're both mistaken, (none / 0) (#8)
by jeffinalabama on Tue Jul 05, 2011 at 09:46:02 PM EST
but I certainly can't offer you the legalities, since IANAL. I can only tell you that the barriers for a citizen to re-enter the country can be substantial. Between the US ICE and TSA my son was forbidden. I've filled out all of the Colombian papers. They were processed months ago.

    Explain it to me.

    Well, I can't give you legal advice (none / 0) (#9)
by andgarden on Tue Jul 05, 2011 at 09:54:06 PM EST
and I'm not competent to advise you on this, but I would have thought that their hands would be tied once your son's citizenship was established.

    You have an immigration lawyer?

    Mind-blowing. Do your lawyers say (none / 0) (#12)
by Peter G on Tue Jul 05, 2011 at 10:24:46 PM EST
that TSA and ICE are legally correct, or legally incorrect but bureaucratically powerful and difficult to overcome even when they're wrong?  I'd love to see their rationale (if you have it, you could e-mail it to Jeralyn, who would forward it to me if you asked her); I'm just flabbergasted.  How old is your son - very young, right? And they concede he's a US citizen?  I just don't get it.

now my 8 year old can be a handfull. But a terrorist? I don't think so, not even to his pets.

hope it was worth waiting in, not one, but two lines!

My crib smells like a Dow Chemical plant, but I think (hope?) we've got the fleas in retreat.  And it was a good excuse to spend the evening with the stereo around the fire pit with a pitcher of 'ritas and the peace pipe post-fumigation.

Sorry PETA, ants I can deal with but fleas must die!

We are getting out on a boat this weekend for the Blue Angels annual beach show here on the gulf coast. Full dress rehearsal on Friday and full show on Saturday.

Two for the price of none!

knock a couple back for all us sinners, and enjoy the shows this weekend!

It was really too hot to be near fire, but I just love staring at flame and listening to wood pop...it is therapuetic.  This may be a psychedelic flashback talking, but I could swear the flame was dancing in rhythym to "Axis Bold as Love" at points.

And so castles made of sand slips into the sea, eventually

try a eucalyptus spray. I put leaves inside the pet beds and I go around my baseboards and do rugs and furniture with the spray. Had major breakout late winter here (they don't disappear in the winter in CA!) I also have leaves under my couch cushions and put oil on the pet collars. I'm "winning" now, so far :)

I'll keep eucalyptus in mind as a preventitive measure, now that I've gassed the little buggers to near extinction.

If I see an ant or two I'm unskeeved, and spiders I love, they're welcome to squat anytime...but something about those miniscule fleas grosses me out, can't have it.
