Via Atrios, Fred Hiatt proves he is same as he ever was - dumb as a bag of hammers. On the last 10 years, Hiatt's WaPo says "Given the scope of the challenge, the country should give itself some credit for what it has achieved." Really. That's what he wrote.

These are the "elites" that will lead us out of our economic troubles? On the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, we remain well and truly f*cked as a Nation.

Never forget . . . except how the elites have blown up the world.

    seem to be doing just fine so far, and getting away with bags of money. The only problem for them that I can see is that they haven't yet seemed to be able to look ahead far enough to see what'll happen to them when the rest of the world runs out of money to sustain their trickle up economy.

    Osama did and now his successor must love our "celebration" of the failure of our national security...and the beginning of the accelerated destruction of our constitution.

    But the reason we "celebrate" every year is to get the populace pumped for war and constitutional degradation. It's just more propaganda.

    Preying upon, wanting to revisit and sit in the raw emotion.  It was a horrible day, it was a horrible week and even year, but the families who lost family members have had to move on.  They have had to grieve their losses and find a way to go on and move forward, while the rest of us are encouraged to not move beyond the initial attack because it isn't so noticeable that we need to.  My husband says that cable is just trying to get ratings, whoever can ramp this up the most wins.

    of our economic troubles when they are the ones who helped get us in?  Amongst the elites, being wrong does not disqualify one from membership in the bubble.

    They have no interest in getting us out of OUR economic troubles.

    Getting us out of OUR troubles will hurt their bottom line.

    Does capitalism evolve naturally into an oligarchy?

    The few countries I know relatively well did become oligarchies after capitalism ran long enough. Do we have to have elites that try hard to return us to the 15-16 centuries?

    editorial board's published opinion?  If so, I agree he's dumb.  Not very positive, but, on the basis of this rose-colored view of the post-Sept. 11 U.S., justified.  Nothing about that famous notice of impending attack b/4 Sept. 11, FBI realization Saudi pilots were training in U.S. to fly planes but not land them, Cole attack, Bush admins. knowledge there was no reason to destroy Iraq, no mention of Pakistan, and saving to the last sentence any mention of loss of human life of U.S. military and "collateral" damage, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, and on and on.   Also, may we please know which specific attacks the loss of our civil liberties and drain on our public fisc have averted?

    Saying that the two administrations had the same response.  He left out that Bush attacked a country that had nothing to do with it and left Obama to have to wind down a conflict sitting on a powder keg that didn't exist prior to the Bush administration. And forgetting that we were about to be overrun in Afghanistan when Obama took office, and forgetting that Obama went after Al Qaeda while the Bush administration said they weren't hunting them anymore and decided to hunt the whole country of Iraq instead because according to their intelligence Al Qaeda only numbered about 100 or 200 members.  I guess there more targets in Iraq or something.  The whole piece is a giant vile evil lie.
