Make of this what you will (5.00 / 5) (#35)

for reading tea leaves. I just accidentally knocked my Obama birth certificate mug off the counter. As it was about to hit the floor I was horrified at what a bad omen a shattered Obama mug would be for the election. It hit the ground, bounced, hit the ground again....and not a scratch or chip on the thing. Made in America, baby.

Maybe the unbreakable mug (none / 0) (#40)

You are a bookies dream come true as this list doesn't fit on a normal sheet of loose leaf paper. And today you play the Wolverine game leaving me no obvious game for my single pick.

I'll have to let oculus or MT find a game missing from the list for my solo pick today. I'd pick someone in the South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs game but there's no betting line available from Vegas Insider.

by CoralGables on Sat Oct 13, 2012 at 02:30:26 PM EST
The Golden Eagles at 0-5 travel to the 3-2 Nights in White Satin. One of the worst teams in the bad Conference USA against the Robert Redford led Knights. Oh wait, not those Knights. I'm confusing "The Natural" with football.

The best game for UCF was a 5 point loss to Missouri. The best game of the year by Southern Miss was their Spring game, when half of the Southern Miss team was able to notch a win while the other half still remains winless.

The game opened with UCF an 11 point favorite and quickly went up to 17. There's not an ounce of logic to give 17 points to a Southern Miss team that averages 16 pts a game. UCF will likely need 34 or more to cover.

Thanks for the unpickable game Ruffian. UCF is losing by 17 and they haven't had their pre-game meal yet, but I can't bank on a winless team.

I'll take UCF -17 (1 unit) and hope they pen me A Knight's Tale and score 40.

You'd me amazed at how much brain power is available to you, but, most of the time lays dormant, and unused. I once asked a veteran stock broker, ""How does a stock broker fanatic keep track of so many stocks, some of which must be overlapping?"

His answer: "buy one share each of fifty different companies, then go to the broker's office and watch that tape wizz by. (this was before home computers) Before the day is over you'll be able to recite every stock, and every price, down to the last 1/16th. of a point.

When you have a (financial) interest in something, the mind keeps it in the forefront. All the rest of the thousands of bits of input that come your way every day go into storage.

were ricochets. BYU sacked the OSU QB twice. OSU sacked the BYU QB 4 times.

OSU made gained more yardage from passing than it did from running because BYU has pretty good rushing defense.

The Beavers played a damn good game. Their win is certainly not a fluke.

or new there. Been aware of certain mainstream myths for a long time, many of them explained in Sheldon Stern's fine book about the crisis, Averting the Final Failure, from a decade ago.  That ap piece also leaves out a few myths and important turning points which Stern covers.

Kennedy, as Stern explains, comes out even better without the myths, a rational, level-headed and courageous president willing to buck the nearly unanimous hawkish stance of his military and civilian advisors and negotiate a settlement.  He was also greatly assisted by a suddenly rational and level headed Nikita who interestingly was situated in the Kremlin very eerily similarly to JFK wrt hawkish advisors.  In the end they both acted like reasonable and sane leaders in the compromise solution.

The 50th anniversary of the missile crisis offers opportunity to celebrate outstanding presidential leadership in the most dire circumstances this planet has ever experienced.  Leadership all the more remarkable when stripped of the cold war myths.
