Kennedy Center Honors David Letterman

Is anyone watching CBS and the Kennedy Center Honors? Really great tribute to David Letterman. The event took place December 3. Also honored: Dustin Hoffman. And Led Zeppelin. Here's a recap.

Great tribute to David Letterman. (none / 0) (#1)

The presenters really nailed him, his curmudgeonliness, his off-kilter sense of humor, his impatience with those he considers fools. I still relish the memory of David, after the November election, calling Karl Rove "a tubby little weasel."

Loved Heart's rendition of "Stairway to Heaven" during the Led Zeppelin tribute. And it was so sweet to see John Bonham's son Jason on drums.

Heart's performance was the best of the three (none / 0) (#2)

songs played for Zeppelin. And Jimmy Page looks great! I'm so lucky -- I got to see Zeppelin and N. Makarova perform in the 1970's, when they were all in their prime. This was a fun Kennedy Center Awards show to watch.

to Heart. The Wilsons really did a good job and the choir was beautiful. The bowlers were a nice touch.

they all seemed very pleased and moved. Anne Wilson's voice is still rocking. Was nice to hear.

there was a quick shot of Bowie in the audience :)

Thought the DL part was pretty funny. Tina Fey was great, as were the others. Listening to the LZ tribute, reminded me of a time when I couldn't stand hearing them. I had moved on (and thought they were overplayed) and was staying at a certain hotel in West Hollywood and a certain band was there and blasting them around the pool. All these years later it made me laugh and want to put LZ on around the house, lol!~

Would the Letterman of today (none / 0) (#10)

give all that quality time to people like Don Van Vliet, Harvey Pekar and Warren Zevon, the way he did 10+ years ago?

I kinda doubt it. The suits seem to have definitively taken over these days. Does time-slot make THAT much difference?

Gone is that loopy, fringe, edge his show used to have on occasion..

Missed Dustin Hoffman unfortunately.  But I tuned in just in time to see Tina Fey's tribute to Letterman.  All the comics were funny.  The tribute to LZ was good also.  I thought surely someone would mention that for at least 10 years every single prom in America had Stairway to Heaven as the Theme.

I have loved Led Zeppelin and Heart (none / 0) (#7)

my whole life so I'm looking for a youtube link that will play all the way through but no luck so far.  But did they really leave out the "if there's a bustle in your hedgerow" line?  My favorite bit in the whole song, I think.

the whole show is on You Tube (none / 0) (#8)
