Here's a ballot for the nominees. Who are you rooting for to win?

Update: Sacha Baron Cohen arrives as The Dictator:

Gynneth Paltrow looks great. Not crazy about Meryl Streep's dress. Or Jennifer Lopez's dress.

    Gary Oldman, Michelle Williams

Viola Davis looks wonderful in that green dress. Also love Jessica Chastain's brocade, and Berenice Bejo all sparkly.

    I can't choose best picture this year (none / 0) (#2)

But I'm rooting for Viola Davis and Gary Oldman.  That is all I have solid opinions on.

opinions, except I hope The Descendants and George Clooney do not win. Maybe I heard too much about it before I finally saw it, so I was underwhelmed.

I must say too that I think George Clooney would be a lot more attractive if he ever showed up with a woman at least 2/3 his age.

His role model should be Antonio Banderas (none / 0) (#4)

Jean DuJardin, best actor.  "Merci beaucoups," he responded.  "Formidable."

as was Gary Oldman. Clooney was good, but not in their league.

    haven't seen Oldman yet (none / 0) (#15)
by DFLer on Sun Feb 26, 2012 at 07:19:47 PM EST
however, being a big fan of Alec Guiness in the same role, the reviews I read said Oldman and the movie took the quiet deadpan George as played by Guiness to the max...in almost a cliche of the first portrait...so that doesn't sit well with me.

The Descendants was enjoyable, no big. However I thought Clooney was veru human in his role and that's what I liked.
    Is Hugo up for anything?

    I didn't see the Alec Guiness version (none / 0) (#19)

So maybe I was overly impressed.

I thought Clooney was better in Up In The Air. I was rooting for him that year.

Sascha Baron Cohen playing his dictator role (none / 0) (#6)

On the red carpet just spilled the "ashes" of Kim il Jong on Ryan Seacrest saying "now you can say you're wearing Kim Il Jong.  Ryan didn't look pleased.

Yeah, that was uncool of Cohen (5.00 / 1) (#8)
by ruffian on Sun Feb 26, 2012 at 06:31:15 PM EST
as was the whole thing of coming in character. I'm a big fan of his, but hey, don't mess with my Oscar night.

follow it very closely. Probably just letting him do it was easier than making a big deal. As long as he doesn't spill anything on multi thousand dollar gowns.

Egomaniac assh*le ... bigtime.  Even by Hollywood standards, and that's saying something.

This is an award show for the movie business, choreographed by Hollywood, not the inauguration of a new pope or president.

Tina Fey and Michelle Williams rocking the peplums so far.

    Thank you (none / 0) (#23)

now I know what a peplum is. It's my word for the day even if I'm not a fan. My first thought on Michelle Williams was...if she'd lose that skirt looking thing, that would be a great dress.

    As far as I'm concerned, (none / 0) (#24)

peplums are among the stupidest fashion "looks" in history (and there are many).  They make even terminally skinny, size zero models look like they have huge, grotesque hips, never mind "normal" women.  Totally unattractive.  YMMV.    ;-)
