    yesterday morning, my favorite FOX TV fair and balanced talking head, announced that the ACA was struck down. I picked that up again from "Blitz" on CNN, so it must be important.  Has anyone heard anything more about that?   Thanks, in advance for your help.

    I have told them that if the ACA is socialized government run health care then George W. Bush's pick for the Supreme Court just embraced it. The tried to blame the four that were voting for it but I said no, those alone would not be enough for it to survive. The CONSERVATIVE supreme justice is the one that decided to let it stand.

    soldier tasteless.  You're fine :)  I used to have more refined tastes, those have become broken due to what I suspect has been misuse.

    Some really pretentious Oregonian told me on Wednesday at a wine tasting that I don't know $hit about taste until she tells me that I do :)  Still can't make me like Chianti.  Chianti sucks, it sucky sucky sux.  It is the suckaliciousness of sucky.

    I didn't like the expensive Chianti last week.  It tasted like all the others in my past.  And you can try to then make me feel low of wine class by telling me that all the Chiantis in my past must have been low class and it still doesn't make last Wednesday's Chianti taste a bit better.  Chianti just tastes nasty to me.  Hannibal and I have often had divergent tastes though.  I will try not to bring some kind of cold fava bean salad to the next tasting in honor of the Chianti loving insulter :)

    And I let it breathe.  I returned an hour later, and as she watched me carefully I sniffed, sipped, and said, "Yup, that's Chianti"

    I am out of favor :)

    I also like Chilean and Argentine wines.  I can't even explain to you exactly what it is that I smell and taste that is divine to me, it's just there. Weeks ago she curled her nose at me explaining to me that "those wines" are undisciplined and immature :)

    But I'm into Spanish wines right now.  I'm not a huge fan of California wines but love a lot of the wines from Oregon and Washington State.  Of course, it's hard to beat European wines, for me at least.  My philosophy is drink what you like and to he11 with what anyone else thinks.

    I love everything that costs a fortune.  Isn't it absurd though that Super Tuscan is considered a lower class of wine by Italian wine labeling law and it goes for around a $100 a bottle? ..........Is Coo Coo

    wines, which are really the only wines I know much about.  French laws concerning wine are very strict, and yes they have set a predictable standard that nobody in the world has attained yet.  But they have made anything new almost impossible to come from them and as science grows wouldn't wine also be likely to "grow".

    She says I'm wrong and that everyone wants to be the French, they don't have to do anything anymore.  I pointed out that French wine prices have gone through the floor.  She says that maybe they were overpriced to begin with.  Okay, but if you have to price your stuff some of the cheapest out there...does everyone really want to be you?  :)

    I didn't used to like Chianti but finally I can appreciate it with pizza.  Still not my first choice.  I like South American wines, too.

    just take-your-breath-away hot and suffocatingly humid...

    And wouldn't you know, my older daughter and her husband settled on their new house yesterday, so are in the process of moving.  Today I met my daughter at the paint store - my god there are a lot of paint colors - and we picked out and bought paint for the living room, dining room and master bedroom.  Went to the new house, taped and painted - first coat - the living room.  Tomorrow morning will go back to finish the living room and get the rest of it done before the furniture arrives.

    Meanwhile, Sunday I will go with Daughter #2 and her fiance to look at a house, and Monday I go to the venue they've picked for their wedding reception next May, to sign the contract and - gulp! - put down a deposit.  We are very excited, though - it is just a gorgeous place.

    Oh, and Daughter #1 is pregnant and due in December!  So, new house, new baby for them and  new house and wedding for her sister...all good stuff, but could life be any crazier?

    And tomorrow is supposed to be hotter than today.

    You know it's hot when your glasses fog up when you walk outside!

    Putting the deposits down huh?  Giving me the sweats.  I was fine then, it wasn't until later and my daughter got cold feet about 8 weeks out and said she wasn't getting married.  I hung up the phone....OMG all the money!  My husband snorted and said, "She's getting married.  She's just jacking with ya and herself."  She went bridezilla a couple of times too, and then I remembered that my husband went groomzilla a couple of times.  He has always understood her better than I ever did, they are the same, he is not her biological father though.

    older daughter got married is that in the beginning, the money makes you hyperventilate, but after you've written some big checks, it gets to the stage where you're saying, "oh, what's another $500? Sure, why not?"

    But it's been 5 years since the last wedding, so I am adjusting all over again, lol.

    Older daughter had her reception here - we did the whole tent thing - and it was lovely, and exactly what she wanted, but I have to say that there's some appeal in not having to coordinate all of that.  

    Next up - the caterer.  And a wedding dress, and we need to get my pregnant daughter to try on bridesmaid dresses before she can't fit into one...one thing at a time...and breathing, breathing - that's so important!

    with a friend, the mother of a bridezilla, last week.

    Finally, with what she was enduring, I promised to be the one to stop bridezilla in her tracks, if she pulled at the reception what she was pulling the week before, having meltdowns at the least little things.  Her mother said that it was to the point that she feared the hysterics "if a rose petal dropped from the bouquet on the way up the aisle."

    If so, I promised to leap up and yell, "omigod! a rose petal dropped!  CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF!"

    In return, she promises to be there for me a year from now, when I will be the mother of a bridezilla beyond all belief -- the daughter whose grandmother subscribed to Bride magazine for her when daughter was three.  For years, we have referred to the groom in her plans as "the unknown victim."  Now that the engagement is afoot, all that has changed is that we refer to him as "the known victim."

    planning her "perfect" wedding, she started doubting decisions she had made a year earlier.  But the wedding came off as a beautiful, under budget event.  Plus, her groom is a quite, stable, wonderful mate.

    Is getting married at the beginning of August. It was supposed to be in June, but she is from Sweden and the relatives could'nt make it in early June so it was changed to late June. The best friend could'nt make it from Germany in late June, so it now looks like early August. They want to get married in one of the State parks where we live,(either Big Basin, or Henry Cowle). I told  them they may need a permit even though it is a small wedding, and let me know at least 2 weeks in advance if it's going to be in my yard instead of the state park.

    clearance for the fiancee visa and other protracted paperwork for a year, with no warning of when the call finally would come -- overseas, where he waited with my future d-i-l -- for the interview, and then the followup approval, and the visa, and etcetera.

    So that one also was small-scale here.  When they landed, I had everything researched and ready, so we raced to the courthouse to file for the license.  The requisite week later, we had the ceremony in the backyard.  That was the official ceremony, here in the U.S. for the INS and to get her work visa paperwork going.  For her family, we had gone overseas for the unofficial ceremony,

    And then, after the official ceremony here, we could plan a reception a couple of months later.  All in all, the bride got three wearings of her gown on two sides of the world over three months, getting her money's worth!  And they have three anniversary celebrations every year since. . . .

    feel free to stop by my place on the west coast. 75 and sunny with a bay breeze. Average for the  summer around here. And yes, we will bitch if we get the slightest humidity, humidity the east coast would die for in the summer. :)

    Sounds like things are going great at your place though, so maybe I figure out a way to ship this weather to you?

    we had some of that earlier in the week, and I was so hoping it would last through the weekend, but, alas - was not to be...

    So, I will think cool thoughts, and pretend that when I walk outside and it feels like dog breath, that it isn't really that bad, lol...and I will light a candle for Willis Carrier, who had a lot to do with this wonderful thing we call air conditioning!

    also. He saved my behind through many east coast summers! :) After 20yrs back there, I can't tell ya how happy I am to be back to Bay Area weather, especially in the summer. I was VERY careful about where I landed, as some areas around here get hot as all heck (minus the humidity).

    I spent the afternoon on my porch reading. I can't even tell you how lovely that was with the slight breeze. Hopefully your heat will give you a break very soon :)

    ... last night's crazy storm?  It brought the temperature way down from the forecast, but, holey moley.  I took Charles Street from Timonium to downtown a bit ago and traffic lights are randomly out.  Lots and lots of little branches on the sidewalks and streets and a fair amount of HUGE branches.  

    A friend of mine who lives in White Marsh was still out of power this afternoon.  Here we "just" had scary wind, lightening and pelting rain.  Rain just for a while though.  Mostly it was wind.

    storm; lots of thunder and some rain, but no big winds, no damage, no loss of power.

    Not complaining, mind you; it cooled things off enough that this morning I could go out and pick the blueberries I'd been avoiding because it was so oppressively hot.

    And the sun being in for a big part of the afternoon was a godsend with my daughter's move today...we could actually sit outside and eat earlier without melting!

    We had the most amazing displays of lightning I have ever seen.  Plus very heavy wind and heavy rain.  But no trees down, no homes damaged, and, amazingly, we did not lose electricity- 2 or 3 times it briefly flickered off and on.

    where the derecho winds started before they swept east.  We weren't there, but I've since seen the  seen videos, and rarely do clouds stack so high, look so dark, and move so fast.  The temperature dropped from the high nineties to seventy in no time, too.  But little damage was done, compared to what hit in the East.  Family and friends there are sweltering, with no power for another week.

    your friends and family that the power companies do a better job of restoring electricity to them than it looks like they will be able to do.  Really brutal here without air conditioning, or even a fan.
    I have friends without electricity, and others who have electricity but their county was on water restrictions until yesterday.

    I'm sorry to say, but I have to disagree.

    The guy was apparently sane the day -heck, hours before.

    I think its likely that MJ cut with something else caused this mess.

    Note, I said "cut" with something else. Our toxicology screens don't screen for every illegal drug or every "unknown" drug.

    So yes, I think this attack was mostly drug related. No, I don't think that was solely because of MJ. And yes, the press is doing its usual fearmongering and rush to conclusions.

    I'll be the first to admit that my sacrament effects different people differently, but it will never make a sane man start eating faces unless he had severe mental problems out the gate.  Take that to the bank my friend.  

    Ted Bundy appeared quite sane when he wasn't off murdering sorority girls, charming even.  

    Besides, I read the toxiclogy report only showed traces of reefer, he coulda smoked a joint two weeks before the attack, two days, two hours.  If that's all it takes to prove "drug related", everything millions of people do everyday is "drug related".  Me doing my laundry is "drug related".

    The toxicology report wouldn't find everything. I wasn't attacking maryjane, I favor legalizing it. But if you don't think there is a drug connection of some kind - then you have to assume that -for no reason at all- a man without a history of mental illness suddenly "flipped his lid", and decided faces taste "just like chicken!".

    I picked up the World Cup viewing habit, which may have started as late as 1994.  I have no conscious memory of watching any WC tournament prior to that.  Not even sure if Espn was covering the tournament back then. If memory serves, before a couple decades ago the only place to watch the WC was on Spanish language tv and if prior to cable, only if you were in a major city and your tv got decent UHF reception.

    events are taking place just down I-5 from me. And last night Galen Rupp, in an amazing last second push, beat Bernard Lagat in the 5,000m. This was Rupp's first win over Lagat in 15 races.

    That final burst that pushed Galen ahead of Lagat resulted in Rupp's breaking Steve Prefontaine's 40 year record in this event. It was pretty sweet. An Oregon kid, Rupp, who attended the U of Oregon, broke the record of another Oregon kid, Pre, who also attended Oregon.

    Earlier this week Rupp won the 10,000m. He is the first runner to win both the 5,000 and the 10,000 since Curtis Stone back in 1952.

    Firfox also does block opening additional windows if you ask it to, but I do have mine set that way, and it's never tripped over TL.  I have only a couple of sites I visit where I have to tell Firefox it's OK to allow the "redirect," and TL isn't one of them.

    But different firewalls can create all kinds of hard-to-pinpoint problems.
