My son, who follows sports a whole lot, including cycling, basically says "They pretty much all use steroids. There are just some who haven't gotten caught yet."

I don't know if I'm quite as cynical as he is. He basically thinks, if they are adults, they should be able to take whatever they want, as long as they are fully aware of the long-term effects of what they are taking.  Otherwise, the "dopers" have a hugely unfair advantage over the "non-dopers."

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this.  Steroid use is far, far from benign. I wish that steroids, and any other other performance-enhancing drugs, just never existed.  But they do, there are many sports "winners" who have used them, and some have gotten caught, but many have not. The system is messed up.  Maybe if athletics weren't so lucrative for so many, if there wasn't such pressure to "win at any cost," the tendency to make such heroes of the "winners," it might not be as bad.  It infects a whole lot of sports.

There have been in the past, for instance, reports of gymnasts with eating disorders (so that they would not get "too fat" for the sport).  The same with figure skaters.  And Google what wrestlers, and jockeys, do to "make weight."  All of this terribly bad for their bodies.

But, there it is, and I don't know what the heck to do about it.

I know exactly what we did to "make weight." It would be a miracle, imo, if he was not juicing. However, I'm not sure the USADA can be trusted at all.

I did not have time to read all thirty pages, but I read enough to smell more kangaroo court than I hope I ever have to deal with.  Eyewitness testimony by affidavit?  No cross examination?  For unspecified stuff going back decades?  Nothing like a set up for envious people to get even.

Don't know anything about Armstrong personally, but this sounds pretty unfair to me.

    I guess he won't be putting in... (none / 0) (#4)

an appearance in this year's Pro USA Cycling Challenge.  Thankfully, it seems to be doing very well without his involvement.

You should check it out, BTD.  Can't beat the scenery, the people are great, you don't have to speak French and it sounds like it was a heck of an opening stage today.
