Isaac Hits the Florida Keys

Tropical Storm Isaac has hit the Florida Keys and is expected to turn into a category 2 hurricane.

Miami looks safe, but the latest warning says New Orleans may be in danger.

A HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR...
* THE FLORIDA KEYS INCLUDING THE DRY TORTUGAS
* THE WEST COAST OF FLORIDA FROM BONITA BEACH SOUTHWARD TO OCEAN REEF
* FLORIDA BAY

A HURRICANE WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR...
* EAST OF MORGAN CITY LOUISIANA TO INDIAN PASS FLORIDA...INCLUDING METROPOLITAN NEW ORLEANS AND LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN

Thanks to TL pal Fishcamp who is in the Keys and been updating us in comments. He recommends following the Caribbean Hurricane Network.

FEMA is in place and has been (5.00 / 1) (#2)

for several days now here in Jade which "should " be at the outer ranee of the bars of rain. The Fla. Governor is so worried that he and his family are at home today in the Tampa area. He acts clueless about the types of emergency situations that are really fairly commonplace here.  He waited 2days to declare evacuations in areas already being evacuated by the locals.ie The Keys.

    Sincerely hoping (5.00 / 1) (#5)

you and all other TL'ers will be safe and sound in this storm.

Also sincerely hoping that Isaac exposes Rick Scott for the incompetent chicken sh*t that he is.

fizzled out here in the middle keys.  It got up to about 50 mph a couple of times but nothing damaged.  My antique porch screens are still intact.  It's very windy today now that it's past.  Kept looking for KeysDan to come flying by but guess he was stuck in his bat cave.  The neighbor cat came to ride out the storm with my two cats and that was about all the excitement I could take.  Not looking good for folks up in the Florida panhandle.

when going live in the Keys. I think fishcamp or keysdan was just spotted mooning a live Univision weather feed.

I was tempted to post the feed photo but thought better of it. A definite plumber imitation.

mugging for the camera.   Changing handle to MoonDan.   All seriousness aside, literally weathered the storm well. Spent the day in our "man-cave" watching Netflix films that have been piling up.

But, needed some rest after the mental anguish windstorms bring not to mention the physical efforts putting up storm shutters for us and helping neighbors.  The silver lining to Isaac is that, apparently, Governor Rick Scott will be canceling his Convention speech on "health care," although we might have learned something about Medicare fraud.  Sort of a "how to" presentation.

howling at the moon, or howling with laughter, at least, in dealing with the stark situations that you and your neighbors face through this while seeing thousands of pompous political blatherers tell you to just trust them and all will be well -- so many of them idiots who would not know how to lift a finger to help you, nor are they willing to do so for so many of us and our neighbors.

I have a finger that I'd lift their way!

seemed out of his depth during his press conference. Had that Dan Quayle look on his face, along with  betwixt and between concerns for citizen's safety and worries about tourism--not necessarily in that order.

didn't win. But his game has improved so much this year and his standings in the world are showing. Let us hope he makes it all the way to the finals.

but if Isaac were to have wiped out the Republican convention, I would have been tempted to attribute it to a God saying, to hell with them.

could have a bad case of Bush deja vu on their hands. When their convention is actually getting underway tomorrow, several computer models have Isaac making landfall in New Orleans.

and sure to make a headline very soon...while in South Florida the talk was about Isaac arriving just after the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, Wednesday will be the 7th anniversary of Katrina for New Orleans and one of the many less than epic moments of the Bush presidency

maybe the convention site can get washed out to sea. Maybe the conventioneers could wind up in Cuba. Guantanamo would be nice.
Raoul or Fidel could give them all a hearty handshake and a tour of the latest acquisitions of 1950s autos.

Oh, what's the point of conjuring these images.

    The poor get Katrina.

These s.o.b.s will just have additional excuses to get drunk.

the expression "raining cats and dogs" came from medieval times when big rainstorms would wash dead, thrown out cats and dogs down the vile open sewers.  Charming story.
