State Dept . Evacuates US Personnel From Tunisia and Sudan

The State Department has ordered the departure of all non-emergency U.S. government personnel from Tunisia and Sudan and advises Americans not to travel to either country.

On September 15, 2012, the Department of State ordered the departure of all dependents of U.S. direct hire personnel and all non-emergency U.S. government personnel from Sudan, following the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum.

The fastest way to get updates on State Department advisories is probably through its twitter feed. Here is the State Department's list of countries with current warnings.

The FBI says it is too dangerous to send agents into Libya right now to investigate the embassy attack. [More...]

Things seem to be calming down a bit. But they could flare up again at any time.

Although the tumult subsided Saturday, senior administration officials said they had concluded that the sometimes violent protests in Muslim countries may presage a period of sustained instability with unpredictable diplomatic and political consequences.

has been for the last 2 years, but he was on my teevee this morning and he seems to think that armed Libyans who were coordinated enough to oust a dictator - put him on the run even without our help - are not good enough to coordinate an RPG assault on a lightly guarded consulate building on short notice.  For the love of pete, their whole revolution was started in exactly that way.

    Maddening.

I've been told that RPGs are all over (none / 0) (#10)

Libya, the whole population probably can come up with a way to gain access.  The computer expert/gamer reported to one of his online friends that he saw one of their Libyan guards taking pictures of the compound before the attack.  So.....a few guards who aren't really guards do recon, figure out the best way to assassinate the guards who are loyal guards while their friends are showing or maybe even beginning to fire on the consul.  The consul wasn't built to sustain any kind of attack.   It wouldn't be that hard.  But McCain is going to try to make this some kind of professional Al Qaeda sort of thing.  Obama has Al Qaeda so torn up I doubt they can accomplish much that "professional" these days though either.

Feigning surprise doesn't become any of these dopes. And I include Hillary in this equation; her expressions of disbelief and how could it happen, good lord, to me they rang so hollow and absurd that I was taken aback to the point that I now seriously question her intellect and understanding of people.

Libya and ourselves.I think we genuinely thought the Libyan fundamentalists had evaporated.  I think a couple of his guards were waiting for him to be in a poorly protected location near the Green Mts.

...doesn't handle the English language as well as she herself does.

Which is fully understandable.  I've noticed that my keyboard has a lot more trouble with correct spelling than do I.

Or at least than I would if I still wrote much of anything by hand.

Mittens to subscribe to the statesmanship of the legendary Republican senator from his home state of Michigan, Arthur Vandenberg, who as chair of the senate foreign relations committee, held that politics stops as the water's edge, it is indecorous for Romney to side with a foreign leader in disputes with the US.  As for Bibi, he is being Bibi, looking out for his own interests.  Mittens, seemingly would not object if Netanyahu rang door bells with Republican precinct captains.
