As I have long suspected, homes by the hundreds of thousands have been bought up by faceless hedge funds and banks, so they can rent the out and, you guessed it, securitize that rental income and sell it off. (link)

Will these disgusting scumbags ever stop? Nope. We let literal junkies run the economy. People just as addicted to money, and destroying however many communities and lives they need to get it, as any heroin addict is to their junk. The difference? The heroin addict is an honest player, an upstanding citizen, compared to the big money players.

    We're doomed.

And Blackstone, you're right, sigh, might as well be ol' Blackwater buying up those homes. Probably have about the same level of humanity.

Definitely time for a cocktail.  Jack Daniels on the rocks for me, with just a tad bit of water.
Although, house vodka is okay, too, if you put a twist of lemon in it.

Dog found under rubble 9 days after Ill. tornado

WASHINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- A six-month-old pit bull that was buried under a pile of rubble for more than a week after a tornado ripped through a central Illinois city has been coaxed to freedom with hot dogs and reunited with his owner.

Jacob Montgomery, a member of the Illinois National Guard, was separated from the dog, Dexter, when the Nov. 17 tornado destroyed his third-floor apartment in Washington. Montgomery combed through the wreckage multiple times but turned up no sign of Dexter.

Nine days after the storm, a neighbor who was looking for his cat, also missing, with the help of a group called Rescuing Animals in Need sent Montgomery a Facebook message to tell him Dexter had been found partially buried in debris where the apartment building used to stand.

The girl chewing on her lip was abused by a relative, according to police reports - someone she should have been able to trust. He's not in the state any longer, but the criminal case is progressing slowly, so he's not in jail, either. She still leaves in fear, but this unruly-looking mob in her driveway is there to help her feel safe again. They are members of the Arizona chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse International, and they wear their motto on their black leather vests and T-shirts: "No child deserves to live in fear."

That, my friend, is a real gambler's move.

I had a friend bet on college b-ball madly until about five years ago, when he put money on the University of San Diego Toreros, back when I had season tix and was living in SD, plus I was telling them they were an underrated squad. So he puts like ten units (he's a Hollywood exec, the money is chump change really), and it turned out to be the one game that investigators felt was an obvious thrown game by Brandon Johnson (blow 20 point lead in 2nd half, get stupid technical down the stretch, make tons of absurd turnovers), the former USD star who is now in prison on the game fixing scheme. Why a basketball shaving points needs to be in a cage, well, that one has me stumped. He's already humiliated and will never be able to return to the school where he was a star for awhile.

...that USD was playing lowly UC Riverside. I told him afterwards: "Dude, you put a grand on a UC Riverside game? Why not just get an 8-Ball and a hotel room in Vegas instead? And you'll still have seven fiddy in yer pocket." He didn't laugh.

Poll: Christie, Clinton Lead Possible 2016 Primary Fields

The CNN/ORC poll released Friday found that 24 percent of Republicans and Independents who are likely to vote Republican in the next presidential election would back Christie. That's an increase of 7 percentage points from the last CNN poll that included the question in September. Thirteen percent, meanwhile, said they would back Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in the GOP Republican primary followed by 11 percent for Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), and 10 percent for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
    ...
For the 2016 Democratic primary, 63 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents said they would back Clinton in the 2016 Democratic primary, the poll found. Just 12 percent said they would back Vice President Joe Biden in a 2016 primary. Behind Clinton and Biden, 7 percent said they would vote for Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) if she decided to run for president in 2016, 5 percent said they would support New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and 2 percent said they would back Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Very early yet and of course, he would have to get through the primaries where support could be much weaker.

    Very telling (5.00 / 1) (#27)
by jbindc on Mon Dec 02, 2013 at 07:11:11 AM EST
that Paul Ryan, the last Republican VP candidate, and darling of the Tea Party, is only garnering 11% and Ted Cruz 10%.

But...but...the Tea Party will never allow someone like Christie!

(As I said before, I don't think a Tea Party candidate will win the nomination.  The only way I see it happening is if the Democratic nomination is wrapped up early and many Dems cross the line to play hijinks in the later Republican primaries).

    ACA's cost bending (none / 0) (#10)

    And Krugman endoreses it. link

Remember the scary stories from Republicans about how the President was taking money away from Medicare and how frequently it was repeated here to slam the ACA.

Krugman thinks it is all good and the ACA is bending the cost curve in a way it should.

    Final: San Jose St. 62, No. 16 Fresno St. 52. (none / 0) (#15)
by Donald from Hawaii on Fri Nov 29, 2013 at 08:34:51 PM EST
The pathway has now been cleared for unbeaten No. 14 Northern Illinois (12-0) to return to a BCS bowl, because they will almost certainly finish ahead of projected AAC winner (and automatic BCS qualifier) Central Florida in the final polls next week with a win over Bowling Green (8-4) in the MAC championship game. These Huskies -- who played and won 7 of their 12 games this season on the road -- are for real.

The cynic in me can't help but think that should everything play out according to that plan, the BCS will somehow find a way to match up NIU and UCF against one another in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day, just as they did a few years ago with Boise State and TCU -- thus sparing the so-called name-brand programs from the SEC, Big 12, etc., any potential indignity of losing to either one or both of those two uppity upstarts in front of a national TV audience.

For Fresno State (12-1), it's a disappointing loss, but a Mountain West championship is still possible for the Bulldogs, provided they can get past dangerous Utah State (8-4) next week.

    Sunday News Shows (none / 0) (#18)
by ragebot on Sun Dec 01, 2013 at 05:27:14 PM EST
are part of my TV viewing between the football pregame shows.  I have been seeing more and more aging pols that seem to be using botox, and not to such good effect.  HRC clearly has had some cosmetic medical care recently just to name one high profile one.

I am a big free market guy so if that is how folks want to spend their money good on them.  But quite frankly I have to question a pol who thinks a botox treatment would gain them votes.

Because if I were going to comment on anyone's obvious cosmetic work, I'd have to go with John Kerry, who, frankly, looks just plain weird to me now.  Is that about votes, or is it just garden-variety vanity?

Don't know, don't really care.  Maybe the over-60 crowd is feeling the hot breath of the younger set on their necks and think a little nip here and a tuck there will slow the hands of time.  High-def has not been a friend to aging faces that get youth-by-airbrush in print media.

Bored, looking to get people stirred up - I mean isn't that usually why people invoke Hillary's name in a non sequitur comment?

Hillary very probably had some work done, but whoever did it seems to have done a much, much better job than whoever worked on John Kerry.  He looks absolutely awful.
For pity's sake, people, check out the previous results of any plastic surgeon that you may choose, if you want to have such work done, and do not try to have too much done.  A little here, a little there.  Don't try to do too much, or you'll just look ridiculous.

Donald as an aside you seem to have a bad habit of shifting ground instead of addressing an issue you find embarrassing.
