One of the great thinkers of our time, Ronald Dworkin, has passed away.

R.I.P.

    focused reading on.  Considering the debates of our times, he would seem to be a good place to start.

    "The dominant voice you hear," Professor Dworkin said, "is about justice and injustice and what a decent society will tolerate and what it won't."

    While I would go a little further in saying that a government has little right in determining morality, isn't it up to the legislators to write more tolerant laws rather than judges finding the morality in them?

    But: Do you happen to know if the late Ronald Dworkin is related (brother or other relative) to the former Indiana University law professor, Roger Dworkin.  The IU prof taught 39 years--subjects ranging from Torts to Ethics/Bio-medical Ethics--and has authored a number of publications related especially to genetic-related & other ethical considerations, and the "limits" of law.  

    Why do I want to know?  Way back--when I studied at IU--professor Roger Dworkin was still in his early teaching days, and was quite well regarded then. A classmate TA'd for him, etc.  In any event, it is intriguing to see two Dworkins choosing the path of ethical studies.

    Yessiree...Ronald Dworkin was impressive.
