Election Gains for Legal Marijuana

Oregon and Alaska have become the third and fourth states to legalize the personal use of marijuana for recreational purposes. In the District of Columbia, residents will face no legal repercussions for growing marijuana for personal use.

On tap for 2016: Legalization initiatives are planned for California, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada and Arizona.

On the medical marijuana side, Guam approved it while Florida did not. Overall, legal marijuana advocates had a big night.

    Sanity droppin' like dominoes.... (5.00 / 1) (#1)

Definitely the highlight of Election Day 2014...I'm so jealous of states who allow voters to decide such things directly.  My state does not, otherwise we'd be free at last too.

I blame the 80 and over set for the Florida sore thumb...the last generation still around whose majority is still buying the old bullsh*t.  Once they die, there's no stoppin' sanity.

I wonder how many states it will take to kick the feds arse in gear...a dozen, 25, all 50?

for the Feds to just fix it so there is not a clear conflict between federal and state laws.
You would think at some point that would be a problem to address.

in Congress, I doubt the pending bills, and there are several, like this one, will pass. This has been a problem for years. In 2004, there were bills to allow medical marijuana in states that allowed it.  In 2003, there was this one. In 2006, a bill to stop medical marijuana raids in states that allow was voted on. See this 2010 analysis I wrote about the then- pending bills. And  this one on 2009 legislative efforts. And this one in 2011. And this one in 2012.

When Republicans dominate, we tend to get bills like this one (5 years for passing a joint.)

on "states right." How do they resolve states passing their own marijuana legalization with federal law and their "states rights" mantra? Of course in my view they all nothing but lying hypocrites anyways. Their whole less government meme is pure BS when it comes to  reproduction and who you're allowed to love or marry.

from talking to the regulars at the coffee shop I have learned true states right issues only apply to owning or repression one or more minorities.  Anything else is judicial activism.  You gotta get yer buzzwords right.

And that's about as far as it goes.

make Obama mad enough to change the classification of pot.

That would tweak them almost as much as immigration reform.
    I know, wishful thinking.

the law's noose around the necks of those who smoke pot.
Half of those were in Oakland County, where wealthy parents are tired of seeing their kids busted for stuff they probably did themselves when they were younger.

pass down here in Florida.  It did get 57% of the needed 60% to pass.  Doesn't matter to me since it's available everywhere, but when you see those kids with seizures on TV, that marijuana can help, it's very heart breaking.  Big Pharm has their way again.  BTW those stupid Marinol pills do not work for most people, and are expensive.  Maybe the Republicans can fix this...Ha.
