John Lennon: 34 Years Ago Tonight

Tonight is the 34th anniversary of the killing of John Lennon.

Here's one reason his passing has a special meaning for me and my son. I particularly like the post I wrote in 2010. And from my post in 2005

There are millions of people in this world whose lives were enriched by John Lennon, his persona and his music. He told his truth and it was the truth of an entire generation. His death was a tragedy, but his life was an inspiration.

[More...]:

Here is the video of Howard Cosell announcing "an unspeakable tragedy tonight in New York City."

R.I.P. John Lennon, and Happy 34th Birthday to the TL Kid.

    I will Never forget that night (5.00 / 1) (#1)

at the time I was working a 4 to 12 shift.  Which fit my lifestyle perfectly since nightlife in NY starts waking up at midnight.  It was a strange night.  The whole city seemed to be in shock.

I happened to be living in the Ansonia at the time which is very close to the Dakota.  The entire area was full of people just sort milling around looking for support from each other.

Interestingly, to me anyway, my 18 year old daughter idolizes  Lennon-- to the degree she wears National Health granny glasses and her half of her dorm room looks like a shrine. She's a walking Lennon encyclopedia.

He died 16 years before she was born but around age 12  she became obsessed with him. I thought it was a phase (and a welcome one because she went from ODing owing the Jonas Brothers to Lennon and the Beatles) but it's obviously deeper than that. Her connection to him, gave me a greater appreciation. When she graduated  earlier this year, I found this quote to close my letter to her:

I'm trying to think of a  profound, or at least clever, ending, but I'll settle for stealing from someone you admire.  "They asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy.' They told me I didn't understand the assignment; I told them they didn't understand life." Whatever you decide you want, go get it. You can do it.

and you want to get even point her to this site "The Beatles Never Existed dot com".which I just discovered and may be my new favorite conspiracy site.

    * * * * *

    Were there Multiple Beatles?
    Since the Beginning?

The purpose of this site is to present evidence that the Beatles were always sets of multiples since their inception, and were not just four individual young men "from Liverpool", as we've been led to believe. We will be showing lots of pictures here as well as on the forum so that we may provide our evidence sufficiently.

I'm presenting here what I see as the top 4 clues as regards the Beatles being multiples. They're in no particular order, although I do begin with the clue that I noticed first when I began this research: Height Differences - sometimes from year to year, and sometimes within the same year.

I hope you will view this with an open mind, and then conduct your own research to see what you come up with as to whether this seems likely or not.

Be sure to see our forum thread on "Why The Use of Multiples?" if you don't understand the possible reasons behind the concept.

since he sees Paul as having been replicated at least as early as 1962 (and maybe as early as 1960-- his narrative is a bit confusing) based on an eyebrow comparison, we should be thankful, the cabal had the good taste to replicate him and the Beatles rather than say Gerry and the Pacemakers.

It is hard to believe but I ran across it through one of my favorite time waster sites-

    Dangerous Minds

You think you know the truth about The Beatles? I laugh at your ignorance! Perhaps you naively proclaim that "Paul is dead!" but you have no idea. Wake up, sheeple! Paul never even existed! The rest of `em, too! At least, this is the claim made by the batsh!t-crazy/amazing conspiracy website, The Beatles (as they were presented to us) Never Existed. This is truly the holy grail of music conspiracy sites; it appears it is an ongoing project--Alex Jones style--and the theory is premised entirely on the scrutiny of photographic "evidence."

I have been trying to remember all day where I was when Lennon was shot... I can't even remember where I was when Elvis died.

Funny, I can remember where I was when I got married, when our children were born, when 9/11 happened....

Does this mean that I am of a different generation??

It was in my house-cleaning days, and I remember the next day one of my customers had the copy of Playboy or Rolling Stone that was recent at the time, with a long interview with John. Reading that interview in a stranger's house is my memory of that time.

My older brother was the closest Lennon fan in my life, and he was devastated.  He was not the most stable of people and I remember being really worried about him.

    All Those Years Ago

    Living with good and bad
I always look up to you
Now we're left cold and sad
By someone the devil's best friend
    Someone who offended all.

We're living in a bad dream
    They've forgotten all about mankind
And you were the one they backed up to
    the wall
    All those years ago
You were the one who Imagined it all
    All those years ago.

called The Morrison Hotel (no lie) in downtown Seattle on a horrifically inclement night of freezing rain, and like Donald, Recon heard Howard say those unforgettable, very apt words "an unspeakable tragedy".

The open air Pike Place Market on Tuesday, despite the weather, was both incredibly sad and incredibly warm.

And as Paul Simon says, every song we sang was for The Late Great Johnny Ace..
