R.I.P. L'Wren Scott

Update: Mick Jagger has released a statement on his website, which now features a photo of L'Wren.

I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

I will never forget her, Mick

Fashion designer L'Wren Scott, long time significant other of Mick Jagger, was found dead in an apparent suicide in her New York apartment this morning. [More....]

The Stones are on tour in Australia. Yesterday, I was reading his tweets about his excitement at arriving in Perth. "Great to be back In Australia! Looking forward to the first show in Perth" He posted some photos, including one of him on the beach. They have now been deleted. Mick's spokesman says he's devastated.

Remembering L'Wren Scott. Obviously, I didn't know her, but I did follow her on Twitter when the Stones were performing in the U.S. because she always posted candid photos of Mick from the dressing room and limo going to the shows.

L'Wren was 49. Her life was far too short. May she rest in peace, and condolences to those who loved her.

...and slowly pass out, apparently. Hell, some people play the "choking game" for pleasure, whatever pleasure of that kind means.

Just sad. The life of the rational mind in our cold, irrational existence in this universe is a tough baby.

    RIP

    Pronouced "le ren," fwiw.

... until I read your post and accompanying links. She sounds like a wonderful woman of considerable talent and accomplishment, and it's incredibly sad that she should apparently make a decision to cut short her own life.

Every time I either read or hear of these things, I can't help but be reminded of a time when I was in high school, and a very close childhood friend of my mother made a regrettably similar decision which subsequently devastated nearly everyone around her. The knowledge that she had been in near-constant misery from a long battle with muscular dystrophy, while offering a slight bit of temporary respite from grief, never really lessened the emotional impact her choice had upon those she left behind.

Whatever her own rationale might have been for doing what she did, I truly hope that L'Wren Scott has finally found the peace and serenity she was seeking, and further that her loved ones come to understand that this decision was hers alone and never about them, and therefore it could not have been their fault. And may their many wonderful memories of L'Wren in better times prove more than sufficient to sustain them during these most incredibly difficult circumstances.

    Aloha.
