World Cup Day 15

USA! USA! Today's the big day. A win or a draw over Germany puts USA through. Even with a loss a Portugal win over Ghana probably puts USA through. A Ghana win and USA loss gets very very dicey. apparently torrential rains in Recife. Will the tams play to win? Honestly, I hope not. In any event, the picks:

Group G - Brasília - Portugal vs. Ghana, Under 3½, Ghana Pick (+165).

Group G - Recife, USA vs. Germany, Under 3

Group H - Curitiba, Algeria vs. Russia, Under 2½, Russia +110.

Group H - São Paulo, South Korea vs. Belgium, Under 2½ (+110), Belgium -1 (+125

Go USA!

I love soccer. I love it so much that I am watching it live-streamed in Spanish because I do not have cable or satellite so Univision was my only free online option.

I do not speak Spanish, but the language of futbol is universal.  :-)

It's so strange...if ya don't wanna like soccer, more power to ya, don't like soccer...nobody's forcing you.

But why b*tch about other people liking soccer?  It's not our fault you don't understand the game or appreciate it's beauty...do your thing and we'll do ours...let freedom ring.

When housesitting for an aunt and uncle in Fox Lake, IL at age 16, a cousin and I found a full bottle of that and drank it all. I still rank that as one of the three worst hangovers of my life. Even the smell of it conjures up nasty memories, and I honestly haven't touched a drop since. My liquor of choice has always been tequila, preferably the good stuff.

What is wrong with these people?

    Wall Street journal

Soccer is running America into the ground, and there is very little anyone can do about it. Social critics have long observed that we live in a therapeutic society that treats young people as if they can do no wrong. Every kid is a winner, and nobody is ever left behind, no matter how many times they watch the ball going the other way. Whether the dumbing down of America or soccer came first is hard to say, but soccer is clearly an important means by which American energy, drive and competitiveness are being undermined to the point of no return.

    Ann coulter

If more "Americans" are watching soccer today, it's only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.

    glen beck

Glenn Beck: "It doesn't matter how you try to sell it to us, it doesn't matter how many celebrities you get, it doesn't matter how many bars open early, it doesn't matter how many beer commercials they run, we don't want the World Cup, we don't like the World Cup, we don't like soccer, we want nothing to do with it." Beck stated that likewise, "the rest of the world likes Barack Obama's policies, we do not."

whatever is going on with those people is kind of funny-sad.  Of course, some of the rightwing nuts can't abide anything beloved by other countries (foreign, you know) or a game that has unique complexity and team focus (elitist, you know.)  But, what is so absolutely goofy is the pigheaded ignorance in the pursuit of the time-honored political gambit of pitting us foreign-loving, elitist liberal against true patriots who want nothing to do with the game the world loves ... the stupidity of the Coulters et al that is doomed to backfire as millions of American youth and their families engage in soccer as part of their school and extracurricular routine.

Hey! the ignoramuses have failed to notice that soccer is now so widespread in the US as to be as American as apple pie.

Soccer is such a great sport though, they lose.  We both know it.  It was only a matter of time, that has come.  Let them melt down on Fox, their target audience is hip deep in joint replacements :). They were never going to add a sport.

Last World Cup the Conservative nutcases melted too and what happened?  Americans bought the United States World Cup shirt this time :)

The people who bred one of my dogs showed up in them on facebook a few days ago, saw two of them on soldiers watching the game in Afghanistan.

And that's fine. I've long since given up trying to reason with the willfully ignorant.

Anyway, given that their target audience's median age is probably on the other side of 70 years, they become more irrelevant by the day as their fan base dies off -- only they're too stupid to realize it.

    Aloha.
