World Cup Quarterfinals, Day 1

2 big matches today. First up France v Germany which has extensive history both in soccer(their 1982 World Cup semifinal clash made me a soccer fan for life)and of course, in war.

In this tournament, they have been among the top teams. France has been brilliant at times. But I think this is a bad matchup for them, as Germany is more disciplined and equally skilled. The pick is: Quarter Final - Rio de Janeiro, Germany Pick over France.

The home team Brazil faces a flying James Rodriguez and Colombia in the second game. On form, Colombia is the favorite. But this is Brazil playing at home we are talking about. (This consideration includes the effects on officiating, which will certainly favor Brazil.) I have 2 lays here - Quarter Final - Fortaleza - 1st Half Line Colombia Pick (+185) and Full time Colombia +½ (+105). IF the game goes extra time, that is a different wager. I suspect Brazil will be put through in extra time or penalties.

A final word on USA' performance against Belgium. Other than Howard's heroics, it was a terrible performance, taking the USA back to its pre-1994 form. Just an awful performance. Klinsmann is a good coach imo, but he really missed the boat with Bradley at attacking midfielder where he failed miserably. Beating Belgium was a tall order, but that performance was a head shaker, Really bad.

    Sadly, my go-to free live streaming (5.00 / 1) (#3)

source, Univision, is now requiring a cable account to view their online streaming. Somebody got to them.

Without Univision I have no way to watch the rest of the World Cup.  I am sad. :-(

James Bond's heroics end for Columbia...and France is peaking at the right moment and will defeat a beat up German squad.

For the US. Bradley had an overall weak world cup.  But seeing him lead the charge that 2nd extra time against Belgium was impressive.  After Green's goal (which Bradley had the assist), The US took it to the Belgians with Bradley running circles around a noticeable exhausted Belgian team who were just praying the game would end.  Bradley controlled the ball the majority of that 2nd extra time and seemed in total control. Considering he probably had already run 6-8 miles at that point, it was shocking how much more energy he had than everyone else.

The best 15 minutes of the world cup for the US (and Bradley) was the 2nd extra time.  At least we left on a high note.

And I know Altidore isn't Ronaldo or Messi, but a healthy Altidore probably would have gotten us farther.

    Come on Germany!

So much of soccer is fixed. (none / 0) (#5)

And fixed so badly that they're always getting caught.

Why should we believe that the World Cup is any different?

World Cup qualifiers have been fixed.  And there have been lots of claims about World Cup matches.  Even this time.

FIFA denies it.  But what else are they gonna say?

So World Cup:  Fixed or not?
