Mexico Claims El Chapo Injured in Failed Search Operation

The U.S. is still using electronic surveillance to locate Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. Last week, intercepted cell phone signals or satellite communications (take your pick) led them to believe he was in the "Golden Triangle", the region shared by Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango. The U.S. passed the info on to Mexico's Navy, which launched a search operation. It came up empty, finding only some clothes and discarded cell phones and other objects.

The Mexican government today released a statement confirming the unsuccessful search operation. It says El Chapo was injured in fleeing from the site of the raid, but not by direct confrontation. [More...]

As a result of these actions and to prevent his apprehension, in recent days the fugitive made a hasty flight that according to the information gathered, caused injuries to his leg and face.

It is important to point out that these wounds were not a product of a direct confrontation.

Did a drone injure him? Drones are reportedly being used in the Golden Triangle area, not just to find El Chapo, but also Ismael Zambada-Garcia.

This is the second failed raid to capture El Chapo since his escape from Altiplano in July.

Since his escape from the criminal of the Altiplano, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has escaped twice from the Secretary of Navy: the first, on July 30 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and the second last Saturday in Tamazula, Durango.

Also believed to be in the region: Rafael Caro Quintero. The area is inaccessible by road. The security rings are impressive.

Rafael Caro Quintero and Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, knowing the heat continues for their capture and that of El Chapo Guzman, usually move in a wide designated sierra region between Tamazula, Durango and Sinaloa. The search being conducted, according to intelligence reports (so say Milenio) is where El Chapo has sought refuge.

The area is inaccessible by road. Reports reveal that RCQ [Caro Quintero] and Mayo [Zambada-Garcia] spend most of the time on the border of the two states, being protected by layers of assassin armies who have created security fences.

“Nothing and no one can enter the area without being seen by Halcones (look outs) or sophisticated surveillance and communication systems.”

On September 7, an unsuccessful raid was launched in the area to capture Zambada-Garcia.

for a long time, caught some, and couldn't keep them.  El Chapo is definately an embarrasment for the Mexican authorities, and flying around his territory shooting from heliocopters isn't going to give much confidence to the U S, since he already escaped twice.  The area he's from is truly inaccessible and they can see you coming from miles away.  Yes, I've been up there and it wasn't a pleasant trip,

They have been after Raphael Caro Quintero since 1985, when he allegedly tortured murdered Kiki Camarena, who worked for the DEA.  As I mentioned some time ago, a friend was in the joint with the doctor who kept Camerana alive for three days during the prolonged torture.  These are bad hombres.

I worked with him in San Diego. Very nice and very well educated. His wife's father owned over 4000 acres in Chihuahua and you would never know. He was a very rich and very down to earth farmer type who raised cattle there. We had a large production plant in Chihuahua, but it was eventually closed and transferred to China.
