Drug Cop Shoots and Kills Three Fellow Officers

A drug cop in Ponce, Puerto Rico took three of his fellow cops hostage and shot and killed them today.

Our condolences to the families and loved ones of the slain officers.

Pointing out the obvious: Stricter gun laws wouldn't have prevented this tragedy.

One of the slain officers is believed to have shot the alleged killer officer in the arm: [More...]

[T]he suspect got in a verbal argument with at least one of them before the shooting began.

“The aggressor came to the room and started arguing with one of them,” Ramirez said. “Then he closed the door and started shooting.”

Ramirez said hostage negotiators had begun speaking with the suspect, who officials say was a member of the department’s anti-drug unit, when he opened fire on the hostages – one of whom returned fire and struck him in the arm.

The alleged killer officer is in the hospital and under arrest.

You could say that even trained professionals who were armed couldn't stop an assailant.  Guns didn't help them.

You might say that the policemen were trained to talk him down or wait for the hostage negotiators, as everyone seems to want to police to do these days, instead of "Shoot first, talk later".

Who wants to bet this one, for a change,  gets some actual punishment?

... stricter gun laws likely wouldn't have helped, since the alleged perpetrator was himself a policeman. But clearly, those who are in charge have to put forth far better efforts to solicit and hire top-quality applicants for the position of law enforcement officer, than is presently the case. And for that to happen, we first need to hire a better class of department administrators.

if we could find top quality applicants for LEO's and better department administrators, but who even wants these jobs during these days of so much crime?  The Republicans can't even find a sane person to run for president.

Maybe on Wall St. and in the boardrooms fishcamp, but on Main St. crime is on the downswing big time.  Aside from the mass murderers and killer cops, it hasn't been this "safe" out and about since the 50's.

One reason we have so many sh*tty cops is we have too many cops, period.  A leaner, better trained, and better qualified police force would be ideal imo.
