"Happy Snap" Taken by Indo Cop on Death Plane

Here's the police chief of Densepar, Indonesia, Djoko Hari Utomoposing, posing for his "happy snap" with Andrew Chan, on the Wings Air plane en route to the death island where Chan, Myuran and 8 others will be killed.

The photos were released to the media by the police. The Chief, who appears to be staring right into the camera, says:

He told Fairfax Media he was trying to raise Chan and Sukumaran’s spirits and had no idea the photo was being taken.

That's not what others say. From the Australia News article:

EVEN during the major operation to shift Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran from Bali to Java, Indonesian officers on the flight treated the condemned men like tourists attractions.
In a callous disregard for the gravity of the matter, at least one officer took a photo of himself smiling with Chan, who was clearly distressed.

Clearly, Chan had no choice but to comply with the pitiless and unthinking officer.
Though the Indonesian police and military did their best to prevent the media getting images during the transfer, they had their own phones out in force, snapping pictures of the tragic pair.

The photo of Denpasar police chief Djoko Hari Utomo on the plane, which was published on Kompas.com, is a new low in what was a farcical event.

In related news, Indonesia has turned down Australia's latest offer of a prisoner swap. Here are the profiles of the other 8 who will be executed simultaneously with Andrew and Myuran. One female had a court hearing today. No ruling has been issued. A male drug offender from Brazil is mentally ill. Indonesia says tough cookies, it has no law against killing the mentally ill (only pregnant mothers, until 4 months after delivery and children.)

There are beautiful beaches all over the world, including the Seychelles, Mauritius, Fiji and the Maldives . Please do not give your tourist dollars to Bali or Indonesia, or buy their products.

...but look behind him, everyone else looks like they are wearing space age helmets.  Are those guards or the condemned ?  And who knew they let one of the commended wear a baseball hat and what appears to be street clothes, that is just plain odd.

Either way, only a complete tool would take a picture of someone before they are executed.  He didn't know, I mean seriously.

in their riot gear. Here's a larger photo. When the plane arrived at Cilacap, they then traveled by ferry to the death island. The armored vehicles accompanied them on the ferry. The Australian Government is lodging a complaint with Indonesia about the photos and excessive show of force when during the transport. Tanks, fighter jets, military airbuses and helicopters, even a navy warship were on display.

Just awful.  The cop's obliviousness to the condemned person's suffering makes this photograph nauseating to look at.

I used to live in Malaysia - there is not always a lot of empathy on display in Malay/Indonesian culture, this photograph being a prime example.
