The Ducks' game is on broadcast TV tonight, not the almost impossible to get Pac-12 network. They take on the Utes of Utah tonight at 8:30 (EDT) on FOX-TV.

The Ducks have dropped out of the top 10, now at 13, but I am confident they can work their way up to clinching a New Years Day game. They just have to win all of their remaining games.

Quite understandably, following their worst home loss in 38 years (a 54-0 shellacking at the hands of eventual Pac-8 champion Washington in 1977), Oregon has now fallen completely out of the AP Top 25 poll, while Utah has surged to No. 10. The 62 points scored by the Utes were the most ever given up by the Ducks at Autzen Stadium.

Thank you, Giants, for losing to the A's yesterday, thus ensuring the Cubs a place in the wild card game.

This is so much more than I thought possible when the season began last April. The bullpen remains a weak spot. Jake Arrieta can't be expected to pitch every game. Jon Lester is not at his peak, and Dan Haren has a huge disappointment. Still, here the Cubbies are, in the playoffs.

... of the premiere of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the United Artists Westwood Theater in Los Angeles. The campy cabaret musical -- which starred then-unknown actors Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry (who was actually reprising his role onscreen as Dr. Frank N. Furter from the original stage production) -- received rave reviews from L.A. Times film critic Kevin Thomas:

"'Young Frankenstein' it isn't, but then again if also isn't the morbid Grand Guignol-gory outing that 'Andy Warhol's Frankenstein' and 'Andy Warhol's Dracula' were. This Richard O'Brien musical is simply too exuberant and too funny to be seriously decadent. Indeed, there's an underlying quality of tenderness and even innocence in this loving send-up of horror and sci-fi flicks and celebration of post-graduate sexuality."

Nonetheless, the film's unabashedly avant-garde (and also silly) take on gender identity and human sexuality so throttled and unnerved prudish studio executives that they immediately pulled  "Rocky Horror" from the Westwood Theater and shelved it, after only a single weekend onscreen.

Revived the following year with its first midnight showing at the Waverly Theater in Greenwich Village, "Rocky Horror" has since endeared itself to several generations of counterculture misfits and poseurs alike to become what's arguably the greatest cult film in cinema history. And so, what was once seen as terribly risqué and subversive is now resolutely mainstream.

Let's do the Time Warp again.

Surprisingly in this age of megaplexes at the local mall, the Guild 45th is still open for business and thriving. In fact, Seattle has a number of freestanding movie theaters which have remained open, including what I believe is one of the very last Cinerama Theatres in the country.

My favorite scene, When Tim Curry makes his appearance. How cool is that. I never saw it in a theater, but I did have a friend who said she use to participate every weekend when she was in college. I didn't get it then but I do now. I was too into Casablanca. I was thrilled about 5 years ago when I got to see that in a theater. There was so much that I had not seen when viewing it on television and I had watched it unbelievable times. Since I hope to see it once again in a theater, I would like to add rocky horror to that small list too.

Now I have to go outside soon and watch the moon magic. They said we would have lots of clouds and they are correct, but I have a fantastic view from my deck. My Brother just called from Calif and they are heading out to the mountains to get a better view. We should see the show in about 20 mins here on the East Coast. Enjoy in a few hrs.

the latest reporting I have seen. On Monday, Sept 21 the ACLU questioned the validity of the altered marriage licenses, with removal of the clerk's name and the insertion of "pursuant to federal court order."

The two-tiered licenses and the validity brought a request for new licenses to be issued for those so altered.  The ACLU motion calls for the clerk's office to be placed under receivership if she interferes.

The Liberty Counsel, attorneys for Clerk Davis, were to file a response on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Clerk Davis has crafted an exemption for herself, that she says permits her to meet the judge's ruling and her religious conviction.

The Governor says the altered licenses are valid--but it would seem that something more than his word would be required.   And, that is where it has been left, so far, and as far as I am aware.

that the judge would require a response to the ACLU motion in such a short time-frame. It was Mat Staver, Liberty Counsel attorney, who claimed that he would "formally respond to the motion on Tuesday."  Not surprising that he would see time being of the essence for a press release.

Four years, and one John Boehner ago... (none / 0) (#44)

Four years ago the most an individual could give to a national party was $30,800. This time, that top $1.34 million ticket for a couple in the Republican National Committee's Presidential Trust tier, reserved for the "most elite R.N.C. investors," promises "influence messaging and strategy" opportunities at exclusive party dinners and retreats, according to a description obtained by The Post.

BTW, the Democrats are charging $1.6 million for exactly the same privilege.

That's to make up for all the $5 donations they were forced to accept in 2008.

Milk does NOT equal kidney stones (none / 0) (#56)

This is a PSA resulting from my own personal journey and subsequent conversations with several people on this subject.

This myth seems to really take on zombie qualities.  People refuse to believe it even when confronted with actual information.

In my conversations with the urologist about what things in my diet or meds could be causing this that was one of the first questions I had.  Because I had heard it myself and I drink lots of milk. Lots.  Probably a gallon a week at least.  Non fat btw.
He said not not is it not bad but it actually can help prevent kidney stones.

There is a long list of things you should not eat of you are prone to kidney stones, many surprising and disappointing things, like beans nuts and greens, but milk is not on the list.

I saw Boehner on Face the Nation (none / 0) (#57)

It was sort of interesting.  He suggested some things may happen before he leaves that are actually related to governing.  He called Ted Cruz a jackass. And he cried.

You know, I have no problem with men showing emotion.  Or women for that matter.

But when you can't get through a interview or a news conference without crying.  When you seem to carry around a hanky IN YOUR HAND, you know what.

I think that's  a little weird.  And might just point to qualities of instability that might not be that great for the third most powerful man in the country.

    Just sayin.

... emotional people who wear their hearts on their sleeves. That said, their weepy-nelly-on-a-dime shtick does get rather old, regardless of their profession, and often comes across to me as somewhat manipulative.

I don't at all get the impression it is not real.   I might find that less disturbing.   Manipulation I mean.

I don't mean to imply that they are necessarily manipulative and insincere. I think I just get irritated pretty easily with people who burst into tears all the time. It's one of my more self-cognizant faults.

When I was working in the legislature, we had a female state representative (now a state senator) who'd often start crying when speaking on the House floor. One day she did just that while speaking in favor of a child care bill, and my wife later said that night that she saw me on the cable TV broadcast of that afternoon's floor session, where I sat at the leadership staff table behind the Speaker's rostrum. She told me, "You know, you really shouldn't roll your eyes so obviously like that while that woman is crying."

Thank heavens most people don't watch public access channels.

Hard to argue with this (none / 0) (#61)

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani suggested over the weekend that the Republican presidential candidates were so "laughable" that "the people of Iran look at them as a form of entertainment."

"Sometimes when I would have time some of [the Republican presidential debates were] broadcast live and I would watch it," Rouhani told CNN's Christiane Amanpour. "Some of it was quite laughable. It was very strange, the things that they spoke of."

"Some of them wouldn't even know where Tehran was in relation to Iran," the president said with a smile. "Some of them wouldn't know where Iran was geographically, not distinguishing that one is the capital of the other. What they spoke of was quite far away from the truth."

"So, the people of Iran were looking at it as a form of entertainment, if you will, and found it laughable," he added.
