Hillary's Best Takedown of Trump During Debate

I agree with Vogue Magazine: Hillary's best takedown of Trump during the debate was comparing their experience:

“I think it’s really an important issue he raised, the 30 years of experience. Let me just talk briefly about that.

You know, back in the 1970s, I worked for Children’s Defense Fund, and I was taking on discrimination against African-American kids in schools. He was getting sued by the Justice Department for racial discrimination in his apartment buildings.

In the 1980s, I was working to reform the schools in Arkansas. He was borrowing $14 million from his father to start his businesses.

In the 1990s, I went to Beijing and I said women’s rights are human rights. He insulted a former Miss Universe, Alicia Machado; called her an eating machine.

And on the day I was in the situation room, monitoring the raid that brought Osama bin Laden to justice, he was hosting The Celebrity Apprentice. So I’m happy to compare my 30 years of experience, what I’ve done for this country, trying to help in every way I could, especially kids and families get ahead and stay ahead with your 30 years. And I’ll let the American people make that decision.”

Also from Vogue: Melania flaunting her "pussy bow" outfit twice now since the release of the recording of Trump using that word.

....Trump was making a bold and pointed statement, committing to the pussybow look and all the obvious connotations with gusto.

Vogue, like many other publications this year, is endorsing a presidential candidate for the first time. No surprise, it's Hillary.

In case you were wondering, Hillary's pantsuit last night was made by Ralph Lauren -- he's 3 for 3 as her debate designer.

The Trump women were also wearing Ralph Lauren last night, but check out this photo-- they look like they are in a funeral procession, clad all in black with no smiles.

Much larger photo from Vogue is here. (No copyright infringement intended, photo being used to make point in commentary about funereal resemblance.)

No Contest.  Trump's debate coaches seemed to have a productive effect on Trump, for a few minutes into the debate. During those fleeting moments, Trump was uncharacteristically composed.  It almost seemed, at first, that he would be able to display his ignorance of all things government with some semblance of coherence.   But, Trump is slow on the uptake; he has not learned much about debating, even after being trounced two times previously.

Mrs. Clinton cleaned his clock with discipline, facts, and his own quotes at her finger-tips. And, was facile with debating tactics so as to return the volley to her advantage and to reveal his emotionally labile state.

Of course, the most devastating revelation was the danger of his candidacy laid bare. He will surprise us, he says, whether or not he will adhere to our democratic foundations. Trump, himself, lowered the curtain on his vapid and, to some,  entertaining, frolic.   The show is over. I think the country can begin to breath a sigh of relief.

These are the rules of the Campaign Reality Show as it has evolved over the years. The program is designed to reduce political thought to a simple binary choice and force more than 100 million adults to commit to one or the other. Like every TV contest, it discourages subtlety, reflection and reconciliation, and encourages belligerence, action and conflict.

    I thought it was when she said (5.00 / 3) (#4)

He choked in Mexico.  Not because it was her strongest moment, but because it was the first real dig of the debate, it was true, and that's pretty much when he went off the rails - you could see it happening.

For non Trump related takedowns - my favorite moment was her impassioned defense of abortion and even the dreaded late-term abortion.  She minced no words, she wasn't wishy washy, she spoke from the heart and you could tell she meant it and knew what she was talking about.  On a topic that is so touchy for a lot of people I thought she did a great job of driving home what it actually means to people who are living it.  It was unexpected, because so much of the conversation around abortion gets reduced to talking points, and she managed to transcend that on a very sensitive issue in a way that I felt was incredibly effective.

Donald's incoherent rant that followed was supposedly his strongest moment of the debate, and that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about these two candidates.

    I greatly appreciated Clinton's (5.00 / 6) (#5)

that it honestly didn't occur to me -- even though it should have -- that in those two seconds of hesitation before he said, "What a nasty woman," Tr*mp was getting control of what he was really thinking and wanted to say, which was "b*tch." I should have realized that. I think Emily Peck nailed it.

... yesterday in Hawaii. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Hillary Clinton receives 75-80% of the vote in the islands. Local Democrats are phone-banking en masse, and are directing their efforts toward North Carolina voters in the morning, and Nevada and Arizona in the afternoon.
