Trump's Lewd Recording

You can watch Donald Trump's lewd recording at at the Washington Post here.

He is beginning to creep me out. We shouldn't elect a President who makes you feel like taking a shower every time you hear him speak. I don't think he's changed a bit.

Seriously, exactly what kind of change does he offer? He's just a carnival barker. If he loses, which I have no doubt he will, his "Trump" brand will be inexorably tainted. Who would be a big enough chump to buy something that says "Trump" on it? I won't be surprised if NBC changes the name of Celebrity Apprentice before Arnold Schwarzenegger takes over hosting duties in January.

The only place for Trump after this election is the media -- as in his own media company. He'll probably try to become a media mogul and buy or start a new right wing cable news channel and online news outfit. There's a sucker born every minute who will want to watch his show -- even if just to revel in how far he's fallen. [More...]

Update: John McCain tells Politco he and his wife will not vote for either Trump or Hillary. They will write in a Republican candidate
"Cindy and I will not vote for Donald Trump. I have never voted for a Democratic presidential candidate and we will not vote for Hillary Clinton. We will write in the name of some good conservative Republican who is qualified to be President," McCain said in the statement.

Melania Trump's statement:

Even Trump’s wife, Melania, issued a statement saying “the words my husband used are unacceptable and offensive to me.” But she tried to push past the scandal. “I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world.”

    The sign to the Trump International Hotel ... (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by Donald from Hawaii on Fri Oct 07, 2016 at 08:28:35 PM EST
... in Waikiki was vandalized this week. Members of UNITE-HERE, Local 5, the hotel and restaurant employees union, have been picketing the place since last weekend, both in response to the candidate himself, and in solidarity with UNITE-HERE members / employees at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, where labor and management have been at serious loggerheads.

The hotel occupancy rate on Oahu is at 93%, yet the only Waikiki hotel that's losing business is the Trump International, where foot traffic and bookings have seen a 14% drop since the beginning of the year. Nationwide, bookings at Trump Hotels have apparently decreased by a whopping 59% during the same period.

So, if Donald Trump thought running for president represented some kind of a compelling marketing strategy, he looks to have been grossly mistaken.

    Aloha.

90 second video contained (a) a "hostage" apology, (b) an apology really is not necessary, since it was a youthful indiscretion, ten years ago, when Trump was barely 60 years old, (c) he denied it was him. That was then, this is now, and that was said before he was him, (d) he has learned a lot about women since he was 68 years old, when he started this campaign and met women who lost children and things, (e) Bill Clinton is worse and Hillary is a bully.

And just wait until the town hall debate, and he will really have a thing or two to say about how bad the Clinton's are. Besides, there is the in the bus Trump and the outside of the bus Trump. Inside, well..., outside just cheek kisses and says Melania approves.

Trump's videotape in the unabridged form is startling.  Descriptions alone, as vulgar, or reporting with bleeps, sanitizes Trump's sleaze.  Bill Maher, for example, on his more permissive HBO show last night, quoted in "full frontal" Trump's bus musings.

The audience seemed so startled and disbelieving of Maher's reporting, that he had to pause to state that he was not making it up.   It was surprising to see in NYTimes reporting (a family newspaper?) the fully spelled F#!*. Apparently, the NYTimes, too, felt they had to use the unabridged edition.

An emotional political crisis. It is hard for me to read most native Alabamians. Admittedly I do not understand the underpinnings of what motivates many of them. Piously elected Governor Bentley was discovered to have employed his lover (who is not his wife) as his highest paid aid. And he refuses to step down, impeachment talking every day while the house speaker is in jail, convicted of 12 felony ethics charges. Apparently regular church attendance is a guarantee of nothing. Most of those around me seem to be in the midst of emotional crisis discussing politics. They would talk Trump though...and now this?

I had to fly to Honolulu for business, and spent the night. He's ten months old now, and is already pulling himself into a standing position and trying to walk. Not quite there yet, but no doubt he will be by Christmas. He's an inquisitive little guy and you really have to keep an eye on him, because he crawls very quickly and makes a beeline for anything that catches his eye.

From having been such a huge 11-lb. baby at birth, he's now a normal-sized tot. Our old cat, who stayed at our townhouse with Elder Daughter and family when we made the move to Hilo, is extraordinarily patient with him, and seems to enjoy being manhandled by him although when she's finally had enough, she just walks away and hops up on her perch by the front window where he can't get to her.

We've had very wet weather in Hilo of late, remnants of a Tropical Storm Ulii, which dumped about 12 inches on us last Sunday and Monday. When I flew out Monday afternoon, it was thunderstorming. But when I got to Honolulu, 220 miles and 45 minutes later, the sun was out and it was nice.

Because Trump's name will remain on the ballot at this point regardless of whatever such decision is made, it really won't help the GOP to have Trump quit, even if he was so inclined. The time for Trump to have stood down and let someone else carry the GOP standard was early September at the latest. His name will remain on the ballot in all 50 states regardless of whether or not he suspends his campaign, because the ballots are already printed. It's further estimated that over a half-million people have already voted via mail and absentee ballot.

Nope, Der Trumpenfuhrer's ship has long since sailed with a full complement of passengers and crew. The fact that it's now struck a mine, is taking on water and listing heavily to port, and is in imminent danger of capsizing and foundering altogether is the Republicans' problem, and not ours as Democrats.

From a practical standpoint, the best Republicans can do right now is to disown Trump in  what would undoubtedly be a desperate effort to put as much distance between his candidacy and themselves by November 8. While a few Republicans down ballot have already decoupled, as of this writing most have not and further, it's very likely that they have no real intention of doing so.

That's because Trump still commands the loyalty of at least 25-30 million hardcore supporters, and were he to somehow be muscled aside by the party brass, it's highly likely that those followers would abandon the GOP wholesale and not vote at all. Were that to happen, you can kiss GOP control of Congress and many state legislatures good-bye.

Nearly every major Republican officeholder across the country who's standing for re-election this cycle continues to endorse and support Trump's candidacy. There's really no way to un-ring that bell, and they know it. All they can do right now is hunker down, ride the storm out and see what happens in four weeks.

    Aloha.

How would Pence at top of ticket fare?

Like a deer in the headlights.  He didn't sign up for this $#!+.  Hey Ted, you said you wanted this, didn't you?

The chaos would be overwhelming. There is no precedent.  No campaign team in place, like there is now with Kellianne Conway and Steve Bannon. /s  Hollywood couldn't sell a story this far out. Disaster for the GOP.

Just the way I like it.

will this change a single vote?

It already has.  Kelly Ayotte has stated that she will write in Pence, which is the same as giving Hillary another vote.

I don't care whom they vote for, every Pence write-in or third party vote helps Hillary, and this recording is pushing the former Trump voters hard in those directions.

endorsing, no credit for un-endorsing. Trump's 90 second hostage apology along with Clinton derangement syndrome is likely to be enough to keep the deplorables in tow.  And, the establishment Republicans will be afraid to go much further than a stern letter, save for a few, such as in Utah and some in tight races who will un-endorse.

Maybe not quite as bad as the actual lewd actions of, say, a married president depositing his semen on a 27 years younger intern's dress in the Oval Office in just one of his 9, er, "encounters" with her. But, still, the recording is very damning.

Because consensual sex between adults is exactly the same as sexual assault on an unwilling party.

The lengths gone to and the logical contortions required to be a Republican are why I am not one of them.  I'm just not smart enough to rationalize the indefensible.

It's almost as though Republicans think Bill Clinton is running for something.  How do they get this silly?  If it's a drug they take, I want some.

but you make an interesting point

what if the right reacted to Trump's vulgar words the same way the left reacted to Bill Clinton's acts in 1998?

"it's only sex -- move on"

trouble is, the right is too heavily invested in sanctimony & ersatz prudery to pull off a "move on" response to the sanctimony & ersatz prudery of the left in this instance

& that's too bad, in a way, because Trump says "Pussy" & the media yells "Squirrel" as the world burns

    One problem here with this analogy, ... (5.00 / 2) (#67)
by Donald from Hawaii on Sat Oct 08, 2016 at 04:17:26 PM EST
... aside from the facts that the Clinton-Lewinsky liaisons were entirely consensual and that Bill Clinton is not on the ballot, is that Trump is actually facing a civil lawsuit from a woman who claims that he sexually assaulted her back in the 1990s, when she was a teenager. And yesterday, Federal Judge Ronnie Abrams ordered the case to proceed. So, we're not necessary talking about a behavioral aberration on Trump's part here.

A better analogy might have been Juanita Broaddrick's allegations about being raped by Bill Clinton back in 1978, which were similarly raised well after the fact. But unlike this instance in which there is videotaped evidence of Trump's braggadocio, Broaddrick had changed her story so substantially from her initial deposition in the Paula Jones case that most reputable journalists who looked into her claims subsequently determined her to be entirely unreliable.

But I'd offer a word of caution here, even as some of us admittedly revel in Schadenfreude. At this point, that 2005 videotape is really proof of nothing more than the fact that some vulgar and remarkably immature banter took place between two obviously grown men. Otherwise, there is no indication thus far that an actual sexual assault was ever committed by Trump in this particular instance.

In the meantime, please pass the popcorn. This is going to be fun to watch.

what if the right reacted to Trump's vulgar words the same way the left reacted to Bill Clinton's acts in 1998?

See, that's their problem.  "The left" didn't care much about a consensual act that didn't affect the government, the RIGHT did.  The Right spent a couple of years trying to use it against a guy who left office more popular than "the right."

And now it's not "the left" that is condemning Trump, because "the left" wasn't voting for him already, for a long list of reasons such as his stupidity, misogyny, criminal practices, etc.   We're just pointing and laughing while "the right" tears itself apart dealing with its own fallout.

You understand, I hope, that the HRC campaign is probably feeding out these scandals at a measured rate, to keep "the right" playing defense and backing up all the way top the election.  Hillary has been the target of political attacks for 25 years, and now it must be fun to be laying the smack down on the GOP.

Expect to see more of the same, and Trump gradually changing from orange to purple, while Hillary runs up the score.

"the right" was after Bill Clinton for perjury & obstruction of justice

In spite of the fact that he committed neither.

See, that was the problem with right-wing ignoramuses who make silly claims.  A CIVIL (not a criminal) action was settled out of court, and any related depositions were then moot, as though they had never taken place.  The lie that Mr. Clinton told had no relationship to the issue at hand, and was not perjury.

But it helped the GOP waste millions of taxpayer dollars looking foolish and improving Mr. Clinton's popularity.  Not sure it was a good deal, but at least the taxpayers got SOMETHING.

by Donald from Hawaii on Sun Oct 09, 2016 at 02:33:10 AM EST
... Bill Clinton committed perjury and obstruction of justice, and thus pursued him. The fact that there was no evidence to that effect was entirely immaterial to their quest, just as it's been with the GOP's Benghazi and email snipe hunts.

I don't think that Addams herself was claiming that Bill Clinton committed a crime. She was only noting the rationale for the GOP right's relentless pursuit of him, to the point of causing themselves damage. At least, that's my perspective on her comment. And if I'm wrong, I'm sure she'll correct me.
