The Swamp of Donald Trump's Potential Nominees

Apparently, each member of Donald Trump's transition team has been assigned a specific cabinet post and will decide who gets it. The people picking the appointees are as scary as the names they are considering.

There really is no hope to be had here. It is as bad as we thought, and more. Consider: [More...]

The Attorney General will be picked by former AG Alberto Gonzales' Chief of Staff who later went to work for Giuliani's law firm, Bracewell & Giuliani. Now he is with a company that manages the personal wealth of billionaire Steven Cohen. Cohen was recently in the news when he lambasted the lack of U.S. hedge fund talent and opened a training academy overseas to train young analysts from Asia and Europe. So much for bringing jobs to the U.S. (His former hedge fund pleaded guilty to insider trading, and he can't recruit directly before 2018 due to his personal settlement agreement with the SEC, but his company has been able to hire all of the foreign analysts who attened its training academy. Or something like that, read the article.

For social security:

Michael Korbey was a senior adviser to the Social Security Administration under the tenure of President George W. Bush. He helped spearhead a public campaign to rally support behind privatizing Social Security. Before that, he worked for the lobbyist group United Seniors Association.

The EPA:

Myron Ebell is the director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Sometimes called a climate "denier-in-chief," he has long had ties to the fossil fuel industry. Ebell has called for abolition of the EPA and wants to scrap the Paris climate treaty, a deal Trump has vowed to withdraw from.

About why Chris Christie got marginalized: There are several reports saying Jared Kushner wanted him out. Why would Kushner want him out? Maybe because Christie prosecuted his (Democrat) father who went to prison a decade ago.

[Edited/Added: I don't think Christie's exit was due to Kushner. I have a new theory based on a 2008 Memo of Understanding between the DOJ and Incoming Administration contained in the 2016 Presidential Transition Guide (it's at Appendix 12, which I uploaded and highlighted here.) On October 20, he was part of Trump's team so something happened between then and now, and I am speculating, but I think it has to do with whether he's under investigation after the Bridgegate convictions. DOJ would not be allowed to say.

There are reports Trump is considering ousted Phoenix sheriff Joe Arapaio for Homeland Security Chief. That has to be a bad joke. (It's not going to happen, he's 84 and under Indictment and his wife has cancer, but still the thought that Trump would consider it goes to his mindset.) Another name tossed around is the looney-tunes sheriff from Milwaukee. Who's next? Bernie Kerik?

Trump named a huge anti-LGBTQ guy to his transition team:

[F]ormer Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell would be heading his domestic transition team. Blackwell, who once compared LGBTQ people to animals, is a Senior Fellow at the Family Research Council, a hate group according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Trump seems to have moved well beyond progressive vs. conservative. He's committed to authoritarianism. No one should be surprised when the response is anarchy. Here's some thoughts on why anarchy is preferable.

The protests continue. Here's a photo from the air of thousands of people marking on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.

    from Berkeley?

You know what they say about the Presidency.  You can't be too rich, too thin, or have too much depraved indifference.
