...upon inauguration, as best I can tell based on this info from Gallup.   It looks as if Eisenhower's approval rating was in the 30+-percent range at the beginning of his first term.

Cease-fire talks had been stalled for a couple of years before Eisenhower was inaugurated, and the treaty was signed about six months later - but he may get too much credit.  I think it was India (Nehru?) that came up with a plan that broke the stalemate.  By mid-1953, the US was no longer involved in a hot war.

Eisenhower also started what I would call "standard Republican economic-bubble-creating policies", which usually please the people for a few years.   The resulting recession didn't start until late in his 2nd term.

    Low Poll numbers?? (none / 0) (#8)
by JeriKoll on Thu Jan 19, 2017 at 10:10:48 PM EST
One lesson from this election is that "poll numbers" are not very meaningful.

Many people was also very happy that Trump's Polls were low throughout this election cycle and then "voila!"

Now I understand that some are going to be binge watching the entire 7 seasons of the TV show "The West Wing" during this inaugural weekend trying to forget 2016 and ignore what is currently happening.

    Alas, alack ...

    Poll numbers ... (5.00 / 1) (#11)

... are a snapshot in time.   The final GE poll numbers were accurate and within the MOE.  Some people just don't like Trump's approval numbers, so they try to make excuses for them.

    Alas, alack...

think he's a "baby Christian" who's laid up his positive poll numbers in heaven.

Political power or lack theteof frequently depends on poll numbers.

do ignore those numbers and I hope that they continue to think that Trump is the most popular president ever. It's their road to self implosion.
