We will see you and keep fighting. We are going to win, we are going to win, we are going to win, keep fighting,” Trump told U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan during a brief chat with them via satellite link.
According to Afghan officials, Trump told Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in a phone call in December:
Afghan officials are also reported as saying that in a phone call in December, Trump told President Ghani that “after an assessment” he would consider sending more American troops to Afghanistan.
The BBC reports:
In the past, he has described America's involvement in Afghanistan as a "disaster", and has talked about pulling out US troops.
But when he spoke to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on 2 December, he reportedly told him that America would not waver in its commitment to Afghanistan.
Then, however, he failed to invite Mr Ghani to his inauguration, deepening worries in Afghanistan that it simply was not a priority for the new president.
How many foreign leaders around the globe will conclude that in talking to Trump, they can't believe a word he says, and decide to disregard him? What happens if countries everywhere believe America's leadership is no longer trustworthy or credible? That he's just a world-class blustering moron? Personally, I have always believed Donald Trump will trash our image globally and reduce American's standing in the world to the size of a pea, but if he's making off-hand promises to world leaders and our military he likely has no intent of keeping, he's also putting us in danger.
