Trump Threatens GOP on Health Care Bill

Trump issues an ultimatum to Republicans on his health care bill: Take it or I'll move on.

Republicans should tell him to move on.

The move was a high-risk gamble for the president and speaker, who have both invested significant political capital in passing legislation that would rewrite the 2010 Affordable Care Act. For Trump, who campaigned as a skilled dealmaker capable of forging a good deal on behalf of Americans, it could either vindicate or undercut one of his signature claims. If the measure fails, it would mean that Obamacare — something that congressional Republicans have railed against for seven years — would remain in place.

I don't really have time for more Trump tonight, so I'll end with the Stones from 1964:

but ObamaCare is failing and will fail soon if Congress does nothing.

To me, it's mostly politics at this point. Repubs and Trump in power.

Surprised that Rebubs don't have a decent plan. After all of their complaining, just assumed they had a plan or two. Interesting to see them squirm and fumble.

don't understand policy. They've had 7 years to write a bill and could not do it. The nature of conservatism is about being against something. Well that works when you are in the minority but it's nothing short of a disaster when it comes to actually governing.

That favorite Republican talking point of "Obamacare is failing!".  Not quite as dramatic sounding as "Death spiral!" or the classic "Death panels!",

... but it's just as false.

Obamacare isn't failing despite Trump claims, congressional budget experts say.

AP FACT CHECK: Despite woes Obamacare not in 'death spiral'

describes the Republican's scam analysis--caught red-handed by the CBO.  The number of people without health insurance will increase by 24 million by 2026-- increase beyond the present failing ACA.  Taxes on the richest of them all will be cut, right away. while Medicaid will be cut and capped for the poorest.

Kaiser states that the markets will be stable with ACA, competition in health care markets does not have the meaning ascribed to other areas of the economy. ACA suffers from the Republicans obstruction over the past seven years. No opportunity to change/improve based on evaluations and experiences.  After all, no one knew how complicated health care is, other than all but one.

Given Trump/Ryan's hit on health insurance with the new and improved replacement (put in quotation marks), the country will be better off with just a repeal (no replacement , thank you very much)--at least Medicaid would not be so drastically cut, although revenues from ACA will not be available to shore up Medicare.

For those who thought insurance companies were the victors in ACA, you haven't seen nothing yet. Without standards or regulations, watch for Trump University-like insurance companies sprouting up faster than sub-prime lenders of yore.  Pitching economic premiums that cover the common cold, and little else.  Consumers were protected, to an extent, by bad bankers with FDIC. But, with Trump care you can put your trust in Trump.

think if you repeat a lie over and over you can turn it into a truth. It's really tiresome. The other day a Republican told me that the GOP passed civil rights legislation. I laughed in his face and told him there's no way the GOP could have passed that legislation because the democrats controlled the house, the senate and the presidency when it passed.

the ACA was a finger in the dyke of a failing healthcare delivery system.  A band aid on a gaping wound.

It's not that the ACA is "failing", it had no chance to fully succeed.

Or perhaps "failing" isn't the right word...insufficient healthcare delivery?  Illogical?

It always was at best a good stopgap on the road to single payer.

If the premise is that we still have to have insurance companies, than it is possibly the best that can be done, given needed tweaking. Certainly better than the GOP mess.
