Fox Announces O'Reilly Exit

Bill O’Reilly is leaving Fox News.

“After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel,” 21st Century Fox, Fox News’s parent company, said in a statement.

O’Reilly lost more than 50 advertisers due to the allegations of sexual harassment and reports that some claims were settled with financial payments. O’Reilly denies the sexual assault allegations and his lawyers have said he is the victim of a left-wing smear campaign.

Financially, O'Reilly will probably never have to work again. [More...]

O’Reilly recently signed a new multiyear contract worth more than $20 million per year. When Roger Ailes left Fox News last summer, the Murdochs paid out $40 million, the remainder of his contract.

Fox is unlikely to take a big beating financially from O'Reilly's departure.

Investors seemed to take the news in stride. Shares of Twenty-First Century Fox were down less than 1 percent at $30.50 in Wednesday afternoon trading.

O’Reilly’s departure will not have any effect on Twenty-First Century Fox’s overall profitability, said Brian Wieser, an analyst at Pivotal Research.
...“They could literally go dark during the time his program airs and they would still be profitable,” said Wieser.

As to who will replace him, according to New York Magazine, Fox wants a new host in place by Monday:

Fox News sources tell me that Tucker Carlson will be taking over the 8 p.m. slot and The Five will move to 9 p.m., effective Monday.)

The Five is the unwatchable show ever, in my opinion. It sometimes comes on Sirius when I'm in the car, and never listen more than 30 seconds. I can't stand the constant talking over people, loud laughing, and pointless chatter. It's like a bad coffee klatch. Maybe on TV it comes across differently, but I doubt it.

for Spicer's job.  There may be an opening if he can't do better on that missing Armada.  Trump likes Bill and they have mutual interests.

Because, who else but the far-left would put these hifalutin ideas in women's heads about standing up for themselves and expecting people to respect their dignity?

And of course slob No 1 in the Whitehouse says Bill didn't do anything wrong. Hey, it's not like he grabbed 'em by the p*ssy or anything, right?

tucker carlson is "a good friend" to dennis hof, a man who owns seven brothels. in by personal opinion, it sounds as if  tucker carlson fits in well with the pervy fox-news abuse culture.

but Fox started to lose my interest about 9 years ago during Obama's election campaign.  They were better when Hannity had Colmes and when Gretta Van Susteren was covering  high profile legal cases.  When they made the jump to 90% anti Obama politics they jumped the shark.

I don't have a big problem with Tucker Carlson or The Five, I just don't find those shows all that entertaining.

CNN is doing the Fox thing of 9 years ago by going 90% anti Trump.  They need to do more documentaries and less large panel discussions.

Maybe Bill will write a "Killing O'Reilly" book now.

when Van Sustern was doing legal analysis for CNN she actually did a good job. I never watched her once she went over to Fox though.

I don't see CNN going 90% anti Trump except for the morning show. CNN is the one that hired Trump's campaign people to work for them. Boy, was that a stupid move if there ever was one.

CNN is doing the Fox thing of 9 years ago by going 90% anti Trump.

...But 90% of everybody is anti-Trump.  He's lost the 20th IQ percentile, moving into the teens.  That ten percent of CNN that isn't anti-Trump, assuming you are correct, means they are in the tank for him, because 100% of reality is against him.

Pretty, much have to be a snake-handler or Duck Dynasty at this point not to be anti-Trump.

Question: Do you believe the networks should publicize the fact that the president is insane, or should they ignore it?
