Ariana Returns to Manchester

Manchester was packed with people for the One Love Manchester concert this afternoon.

Ariana Grande & Friends: One Love Manchester show today is set to feature Justin Bieber, the Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan, Little Mix, Katy Perry, Take That, Usher, Robbie Williams and Pharrell Williams.

It was outdoors, and the place was filled.

It's pretty amazing this came together within two weeks.

The most unusual thing I saw was this policeman holding hands with some concert goers and dancing all the way around the circle (think Ring Around the Rosie.)

I just googled the name of the nursery rhyme to make sure I had it right and I found this guy, who was similarly taken aback and impressed at the sight.

Ariana came out during everyone's set to say "Thank you Manchester" and sing a few lines from one of her songs, which everyone in the audience knew by heart. (I couldn't tell you one line, her voice is excellent but it mostly sounds like she's singing notes not words to my ears.)

She teared up a lot of times and was seemed very genuine to me.

One thing that was a little odd was her coming out for a Coldplay song, picking up her mike, and then putting it back down and just standing there swaying along with the music for about 3 minutes. Obviously, she didn't know the words and couldn't join in. It was pretty awkward, and they started flashing the lyrics on the big screen. But either she couldn't see them (behind her) or she also didn't know the tune, so she stayed quiet. At the tail end of the son, she managed to join in for one line and Chris lit up like a Christmas tree, he was so relieved.

Katie Perry was good (I wish she'd grow her hair back and get rid of the platinum and her feathers, it's very jarring to look at, but she's a great entertainer.

And yes, I think the same thing about Scarlett Johannsen. After Katie's two song set, she sat in the audience and enjoyed some ice cream.

I missed the first hour of the concert, so I didn't get to see the other musical guests. I didn't much care for Miley Cyrus. She started talking about when Ariana decided to join the "movement" she was trying to create. Since I know nothing about her, I have no idea what movement she's talking about. (I didn't watch the Voice this season, I was more interested in Survivor, and there's only so much time.)

All in all, today showed a lot of heartfelt music stars, and all of them, but especially Ariana Grande, are to be applauded for their contribution to this effort to raise funds for the victims in Manchester. You don't have to be a fan of their music to appreciate this show. Well Done, Ariana and friends.

ABC will air an hour version tonight after the NBA game. Freeform will air the entire thing.

Donald Trump is having none of this (5.00 / 2) (#2)

His tweets this morning indicate that how the UK is handling this is negligent. He is in particular attempting to attack the mayor of London and....our next attack is going to be the opportunity he seeks to destroy our Constitution. We have mass shootings everyday, but the next "terrorist" attack will have him asking for emergency powers.

If at least some terrorists are smart enough to know an attack would do what they always do which is to make the country, and to a certain extent the world, rally around the president?  Who knows, he might make it to 50%.

Maybe they are smart enough to know what he is doing all by himself to our standing in the world is more dangerous and far reaching than anything they could ever do.

Maybe they are happy to let him do it

They could really jack us up. It's got to be so tempting.

i suspect (with no actual evidence) that the moron who blew himself and the victims up had no clue what was actually going on inside, or that there were young children there. just another easily led around by the nose idiot, who thinks he's going to his paradise reward. as it turns out, the "70 virgins" are all celibate, and hate him anyway.
