Hurricane Maria Devastates Dominica

Hurricane Maria hit Dominica causing widespread devastation.

The Caribbean island nation of Dominica sustained “mind boggling” damage from Hurricane Maria, its prime minister said Tuesday, after the storm hit with maximum sustained winds of nearly 160 miles per hour that ripped roofs off buildings, including his own home.

The storm has regained Category 5 strength and appears to be headed for the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

(Thanks to commenters for correcting me that Dominica is not the Dominican Republic. I've changed it.)

Dominica is the name of an sovereign island nation.

The Dominican Republic is a sovereign nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti.

May I send you a world globe?  Or cheaper, a recent world map. 😉
Just teasing, my brother.  It is difficult.
    Namaste.

with Lee right behind it.  They say it will turn north, but I've heard that before.  I would like to go to Costa Rica to have my stupid tooth fixed.  My friends are there with a big house and dental work is both excellent and less costly..  I need to get off this rock.  If Maria doesn't turn I can't leave my landlady and kitty alone.  We are a proven hurricane team.

Bill includes dental and vision...imagine that!  Treating teeth and eyes as part of the human body that sometimes require treatment and care!  Insane!!!

Won't help your molar or my f&cked up grill, but maybe one day future generations of Americans will not know this infuriating struggle.

You came through Irma okay. I feel the same way about Maria. I would. It be surprised to see her hit NC or SC.

in Puerto Rico, still reeling from Irma. And my friends in USVI, who live on St. Croix (the one island of the three that make up USVI that skated last time) but may not fare so well this time.

fourteen people have died in the Florida keys due to hurricane Irma.  Several are unidentified homeless people.  Quite a tragedy for our small community.

It's a very nice day here today with a very bad view of the landscape.  Off to the dentist way up in Key Largo, and when I come home I'll report on the cleanup progress up that way.  There are mountains of debris along our only highway.  Hopefully the trash collectors will come today for our normal trash, not our own private mountain of dead greenery.  What a mess Mother Nature has left us.
