Trump's Key Lawyer Resigns

No surprise here. John Dowd has resigned as Trump's main lawyer. Who needs to look at Joe di Genova every day, let alone listen to his thoughts? If he had to bring on one of the DiGenovas, it should have been his wife, Victoria Toensing. She's the better lawyer of the pair, he's just a loud-mouth like Trump. (I spent months if not years arguing against them on Geraldo Live during the Clinton impeachment years.)

Interestingly, or not, Victoria's son Brady Toensing, also a lawyer who works with the family firm, was Vice-Chair of the local Republican party in Burlington, VT and chaired Trump's 2016 Vermont campaign. He is also the lawyer who filed the complaint to have Jane Sanders, wife of Bernie, investigated. Brady was hoping to be nominated by Trump to be U.S. Attorney. But Trump glossed over him and picked a female who has a reputation as being a crusader on opioids. Brady still is still a member of DiGeneva and Toensing. [More...]

Trump can pick any blowhard he wants to shout conspiracy theories on TV and represent him. Robert Mueller could care less.

Personally, I'm starting to think that when Trump goes off the rails on Twitter, it's because he heard something upsetting about Mueller's intentions for one or more of his three blind mice. I think he is so delusional that he really believes Mueller won't come after him because he did nothing wrong. But when his kids are the issue, he loses it.

him never seeing a criminal court. His case, if there is one at all, will be an impeachment case tried in Congress, which, with the profiles in courage that are in there now,  means tried in the media. So Fox News lawyers are what he needs.

I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see him in a criminal court some day.

"three blind mice" are Ivanka, Don, Jr., and Eric...I like it!

Toensing is, I believe already representing several others involved to some degree or other in this mess, and has also represented that paragon of integrity, Erik Prince.

All I can say is that Trump's idea of "the best people" and mine are worlds apart.

Tr*mp said again today that he wants to talk to Mueller. Oh, Please, please, please, let this happen!!!

Anymore. He is smart though, and he's not very military codependent. Not like my spouse is hahaha.

McMaster is a good self promoter. There will be a book that backs his first one up and he will join a credible think tank.

I think his self promotion abilities are why the 4 stars shut him out. They need him to be just a tad more humble than he is. And He doesn't want to be like them, not enough to kiss their arses.

The addition of the comedy stylings of DeGenova and Toensing might be good news for Mueller.

I think it COULD mean Trump understands he can't fire Mueller so the plan is to hire tv personalities to launch a 24/7 scorched earth FOX news assault on him and the investigation.

    That's really what they do.

And I agree with the post.  Mueller could not care less about that.

am tending to think the opposite, the scorched earth policy is prepping the field for the firing.

DeGenova has literally accused the DOJ and the FBI of serious crimes, tRump has flirted with the idea.

My belief is that it is beginning to dawn on tRump that Mueller already has massive evidence of criminal wrongdoing on multiple fronts, obstruction, money laundering and collusion.

Like I said before, I think tRump is in the process of switching from a "there is no evidence" defense to a "the evidence is fake" defense. If and when he goes down that path all bets are off.

But I do think Trump is smarter than he often acts and is aware what would happen if he did.  But he could still do it if he thinks it will buy time.

Plus it would in a way be admitting guilt.

that Trump may not have hired DeGenova after all. Maybe someone who realizes this is a serioius problem talked him out of taking on a conspiracy addled TV pundit. I can't imagine Trump thought of getting rid of DeGenova himself.

imagine Dowd read him the riot act on the way out.

tRump is already having trouble hiring and keeping even semi-competent legal representation, hiring clowns like this would make it even harder.

Maybe, just maybe he is starting to understand that,
