Rudy Strikes Out with Law Firm

Rudy Giuliani and his law firm have parted ways. Rudy says it is because he needs to devote all his time to Donald Trump and the Russia investigation.
His law firm, Greenberg Taurig (once home to Jack Abramoff) adds another reason. It disagrees that using law firm funds to pay off an adult entertainment star who claims to have had an affair with a client is routine procedure, when the client has not approved it. (Trump has publicly said he didn't know of the payment beforehand.) Not only isn't it routine, the firm announced in a statement, it isn't acceptable.

“Speaking for ourselves, we would not condone payments of the nature alleged to have been made or otherwise without the knowledge and direction of a client.”

What does "or otherwise" mean in this context?

The only person striking out more than Rudy this month is Michael Cohen.

as attaching the "otherwise" to the words that follow, that is: "or otherwise without the knowledge and direction of the client." In other words, a lawyer does not act professionally when s/he spends the lawyer's own funds (or a law firm's own funds) on a client's behalf, at least not without the client's knowledge and direction, whether it involved circumstances "of the nature alleged" in the Cohen case or for the purpose allegedly involved in the Cohen case, or not, that is, "or otherwise."

Interesting.  I read that to mean there may have been additional payments made using means other[wise] than those already revealed, or that the firm is attempting to insulate itself if such other means of payment are revealed in the future.

his children, and isn't he now in the middle of another divorce?

When even your family doesn't want anything to do with you...

As an aside, Greenberg Traurig is the law firm of Jack Abramoff, for heaven's sake - maybe GT pitched Rudy over the side to keep the spotlight off their firm.

I figure pretty soon, Giuliani's just going to be doddering down Manhattan streets mumbling about 9/11.

may have made amends with young Andrew (son of Rudy and wife #2, Donna Hanover).  Rudy possibly may have had something to do with Andrew Giuiliani's current job as Public Liaison Assistant to Trump.

Don't know what experience or competency is needed for such liaising but it may be Andrew's pugnaciousness as noted in his federal law suite against Duke University over his golfing coach kicking him off the golfing team.  A US Magistrate Judge recommended dismissal saying that the suit did not make par; the dismissal was granted, subsequently, by a federal judge.

Get you and your husband to a pub, and over a nice nitro poured pint gaze at your husband and list all the ways in your head that he is a little like Michael Avenatti. It really works, swear. I'm going to shave his head when he falls asleep tonight.
