Reports of Rod Rosenstein's Possible Resignation

Update: Apparently Rosenstein is meeting with Trump on Thursday to discuss his job. (I wonder if Trump will ask for a loyalty oath promising not to indict Don,Jr.)

Original Post: Axios reports that Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein has tendered a verbal resignation to John Kelly upon learning Donald Trump plans on firing him.

Looks like the sources for this New York Times article are getting their way.

The tail-spinning of Trump's administration is making me dizzy. He's on a downward spiral and he knows it. I hope getting rid of Rosenstein is too little too late?

I'm not an expert on any of this, but it seems to me that Avenatti is absolutely unhinged in accusing Kavanaugh of facilitating a series of gang rapes. He's welcome to file civil litigation on behalf of a client, but he didn't. This is clearly a publicity stunt. Isn't there some sort of `lawyer ethics board' or is that just on TV shows like Better Call Saul?

"We are aware of significant evidence of multiple house parties in the Washington, D.C. area during the early 1980s during which Brett Kavanaugh, Mark Judge and others would participate in the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs in order to allow a `train' of men to subsequently gang rape them," Avenatti said in an email to Mike Davis, chief counsel for nominations for the Senate Judiciary Committee.

    My opinion.

See the American Bar Association Model Rules of Responsibility and the California Rules of Professionall Conduct. As to attorneys licensed by the State Bar of California, complaints are received by the State Bar, prosecuted in the State Bar Court, and may be appealed to the State Bar Review Department. Cases recommending probation, suspension, or disbarment go to the California Supreme Court.

to regret answering here but this is not a court of law. And how do you know Avenatti doesn't have someone who can testify to the fact that Kavanaugh and Judge were running trains? One woman has already come forward to say Judge admitted to her that he had done it once. He only admitted to once but there could have been more. If Avenatti doesn't have evidence he's going to blow himself up. He seems to be smarter than do that. So far he's pretty much been right on the money.

My post was about lawyer ethics. There's too much going on with the actual allegations for me to comment without an excess of nuance that would be confusing and misinterpreted on this forum.

Reporting this.  It seems everyone getting their news from the WH said he was resigning, because that's what they told them, and people getting their info from the DOJ said he was not resigning and if they wanted him gone they would have to fire him.

It was reported Rosenstein even said he would not accept it from Kelly but only from Trump.

I think Rosenstein may have called their bluff.

is obviously playing the press First anonymous, then last weeks hit job on Rosenstein now this off again/on again firing/resignation. Distraction or laying the groundwork to stop Mueller? This WWE style feud(Stay Tuned for Thursday night Smackdown!) is straight out of tRump's playbook and distraction is his go to tool, however there are many powerful forces that would prefer Mueller to to disappear and this seems a bit better orchestrated than tRump's usual chaos.

Trump tried to make Kelly get RR's resignation, because he doesn't have the balls to try in person.

RR, well aware of the rules that allow Trump to bypass next-in-line Francisco and appoint whoever he wants if RR were to resign, refused.

Trump will now have to fire him in person Thursday , should he acquire the balls to do so between now and then.

Sounds like another demonstration of the WH's competence.

That if this whole thing does nothing else it results in the long overdue ostracism of that vile little White House Stenographer Michael S. Schmidt.

    He just tweeted this

NEW: Rosenstein grew emotional at the White House, rehirerated he wants to resign and is concerned Trump will attack him if they don't have an amicable split. One reason he wants to quit: he doesn't want to testify on the Hill about the allegations.

MSNBC team can find an alternative resource on their shows. The dour and humorless persona of Schmidt does not give great confidence that he would be able to discern if Rod was serious or being sarcastic in the reporting....a reporting he based on "briefing" to those not in the room.  Schmidt seems to be competing for the Judith Miller prize in journalism.

a theory making the rounds is that someone thought it would be a good idea to smoke out anti Trump peeps  in the administration by leaking different, but possibly false, stories about Rosenstein being fired or resigning to them and then see which news outlets posted which stories.

With so much reason to think Trump wants Rosenstein gone it would be an easy sell to get news outlets to go with the story.  Once the low tier news outlets started putting it out the MSM guys did not want to get caught flat footed so they jumped on the band wagon as well.

As an extra added attraction not only would it be possible to narrow the pool of leakers in the admin it would also give the news hawkers a black eye.
