Now Trump says there's no point to giving press updates:
“What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately,” he wrote. “They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!”
There was never any point. The conferences were the idea of his campaign team, who assumed they would boost his ratings. After weeks of being the target of media criticism because he gives out false information, the bleach comments were the final straw in the eyes of his camaign team. They finally advised him to stop holding the conferences because they are decidedly hurting, not helping his reelection effort.
It would all be just another media disaster, except some people took him seriously and tried it -- and the idea for his comments may have sprung from letters written by a religious sect that sells bleach it claims is a cure for the coronavirus, advising 5 drops mixed with water (DO NOt try this). The FDA recently slapped the product's makers with a court order banning their product. More on the court order here.
That the man with a desk in the Oval Office might take advice from a bleach peddler he's never met and whose product has been banned by the FDA is truly disturbing.
Were the bleach comments the beginning of the end of the road for Trump? I hope so. America is entitled to so much more than Donald Trump is capable of providing. He is tanking our global reputation and status.
