DNC Night 3: Hillary!!

I tuned into the DNC just as Hillary Clinton began her short speech. She packed so much into that short amount of time, and every sentence was meaningful. She may have made the best case so far to vote for the Democrats. Remember that she won by 3 million popular votes, and lost the election.

The Democrats need to make sure the margin is much, much higher this year so that Donald Trump can't steal the election. In other words, "it takes a village."

Hillary also made sure to insert Biden into her speech at multiple points. But to me, it was her listing of the key policy differences between Republicans and Democrats that really made her case: On health insurance for all, on social security and medicare, on social justice, Democrats are the only choice. And while they have done poorly on reversing the decades of draconian sentences and the arbitrary and discriminatory treatment of minorities and the economically disadvantaged inherent in our criminal justice system, Republicans are always worse.

Thinking about what could and should have been in 2016 is the best reminder it can happen again in 2020. [More...]

To me, the most important reason not to sit out this election entirely is to vote down-ticket, so Democrats can take back the Senate and have a majority in both houses. With a younger and more progressive Congress, we can start to build the road to meaningful reform, whether the people in the White House agree or not.

Nothing has changed my mind about Joe Biden. Listening to his wife last night, I wanted to remind her we're not voting for church Pastor. It's wonderful they have such a close and loving family -- for them. It does nothing for the rest of us.

with Maddow, Wallace, and Reid was good, too. She speaks with such knowledge and firmness about international relations. The very thought of the arrogant oaf in the White House at international meetings, the very thought of Pompeo dealing with international incidents and issues, must be awful for her -- and every Secy of State before her.

The 1992, less guarded, "not gonna bake cookies" version of Hillary could have delivered this speech.
But I guess that person no longer exists, after 30 years of hate from the right and blame from the left.

We made her cautious, uptight, guarded, then slayed her for not being genuine. Our loss.

of Hillary Rodham. She became "Hillary Clinton," and not for the better. A few years too soon, it seems, for the feminist powerhouse of a President she could have been. And now look: a Black-Asian female VP candidate, daughter of two immigrants who each got Ph.D.s, who has always used her own name, no questions being asked about "why," and married to a white Jewish man, no questions being asked about her religion, if any, or either dimension of this intermarriage. Her step-daughters call her "mama-le," a Yiddish affectionate joke on her Indian first name. What a different world 25 years later.

reference to Ezra Klein's article on Hillary Clinton.  It is a decent analysis, but I would have entitled it, based on the article, "The Tragedy for the Country: the long-term unfair treatment of Hillary Clinton."
