It'spositivity rate is above 9%. There are only 745 hospital beds left. Many of the recently afflicted are between 5 and 11 years old. 80% of new hospital cases are unvaccinated.

Gov. Polis says he won't be issuing a state-wide mask mandate. The counties are not so feckless. In Denver (county), starting yesterday, it's Vax or Mask. You need a mask at all indoor places, including apartment house common areas.

Public Indoor Spaces include entering, being inside, or moving within the common area of an apartment
building, condominium, or similar residential building, including lobbies, pool areas, elevators, common recreation areas, and in offices or other spaces used
by the public.

For public events, the facility has the option to ensure that 95 % of all employees and invitees are vaxxed. Jefferson, Arapahoe, and Adams counties are also issuing mask or vax mandates.

Several countries includingGermany, Austria, the Netherlands and Portugal are also imposing restrictions, including partial lockdowns.

I'm as tired as everyone else of living with the threat of COVID all around us. I would welcome another lockdown. Because governments care more for financial health than their citizens' physical health, and politicians are more concerned with being re-elected than they are with protecting their individual constituents, and therefore reluctant to stand up to political pressure brought by mega industries like the airlines another lockdown is highly unlikely.

I do hope that lawmakers everywhere will make it more difficult for the unvaccinated to attend public events and that the courts will uphold vaccine mandates. Perhaps the reality that their livelihoods are on the line will cause those who stubbornly refuse to be vaccinated to open their eyes to reality.

Until we make real progress towards eliminating COVID (not just relegating it to flu status and deciding it's something we have to live with) I can't think of much to give thanks for this Thanksgiving.
