Here is the link. I didn't write the offensive headline.

A Republican-led Congress spent five years conducting nine investigations into the 2012 events at Benghazi in Libya. The accusation was that the U.S. secretary of state failed to deliver troops to a remote consulate in time to prevent its invasion. Each investigation resulted in an acquittal and the call for another "investigation."

On Jan. 6, the American commander in chief failed to deliver troops in time to protect the seat of government, even though thousands of troops were stationed within 10 miles. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who retreated to a secure space because he did not dare expose himself to the rioters who built makeshift gallows with a noose, says he does not believe this warrants an investigation.

A new PRRI-IFYC study finds that 15% of Americans agree with the QAnon statement that the U.S. government, media and financial worlds "are controlled by a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who run a global child sex trafficking operation."

And 20% agree with this statement: "There is a storm coming soon that will sweep away the elites in power and restore the rightful leaders."

First Read: "It's hard to call something fringe when approximately one-in-five Americans believe these statements, especially one that true patriots `may have to resort to violence' to save the country."

FTR only a tiny fraction of that actually believe any of it IMO.  For the rest it's a game for political advantage.

The opposed have it.  So goes voting in the US Senate.  The Fascist Party was apparently betwixt and between---for a New York minute.

Allow the l/6 Investigation and keep their insurrection in the limelight, even though the Commission structure permitted them to sabotage the investigation. Or kill it off now, and hope it lands  down the memory hole. Easy call. What insurrection?

But, following the Former Guy's directive may, as is so often the case, turn out badly for them. The structure of the 1/6 Commission did not hold out much hope for the kind of investigation needed. They, in their miscalculation, did not pick that low hanging fruit.

Now, a House Select Committee, with subpoena power, will keep that dreaded limelight aglow, and may find something out not to their liking. Such as sedition all around--sort of a Murder on the Orient Express. Sure, the Fascist Party will attack the Commission's findings, but they would do that to any Commission's outcome with which they did not agree 100 percent. Only if the Commission determined Hillary did it, would they support any conclusions.

    F. Lee Bailey... crosses the bar. (5.00 / 1) (#79)
by desertswine on Thu Jun 03, 2021 at 04:16:10 PM EST
    F. Lee Bailey, the theatrical criminal lawyer who invited juries into the twilight zone of reasonable doubt in defense of Patricia Hearst, O.J. Simpson, the Boston Strangler, the army commander at the My Lai Massacre in Vietnam and other notorious cases, died on Thursday in Atlanta. He was 87.

He did not always win, however. He failed to keep Patty Hearst, the kidnapped publishing heiress, out of prison for her role in a bank robbery. He lost his insanity defense of the confessed Boston Strangler, Albert DeSalvo, and could not save himself from contempt of court citations, humiliating handcuffs and disbarment in 2001 for misappropriating millions.

Mr. Bailey gained national attention in 1966, when he succeeded in reversing the murder conviction of Dr. Sam Sheppard, the Ohio osteopath whose case inspired the television series and movie "The Fugitive." Dr. Sheppard had been convicted in 1954 of bludgeoning his wife but steadfastly claimed that he had been knocked out in a struggle with the killer after he returned home to discover the body.

In 1995, Mr. Bailey was part of the "dream team" of lawyers -- Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., Alan M. Dershowitz, Barry Scheck and Robert L. Shapiro -- who defended the former football star O.J. Simpson against charges that he killed his former wife, Nicole, and her friend Ronald L. Goldman in a ferocious knife attack. The prosecution case seemed overwhelming, but Mr. Bailey's cross-examination of Detective Mark Fuhrman was widely considered a key to acquittal.

    And much more...

    For now...
A California district attorney said in a court filing Friday that she won't seek a new death sentence against Scott Peterson, convicted in 2005 of murdering his pregnant wife.

The Stanislaus County district attorney's office said it would drop efforts to restore the penalty thrown out last year by the state Supreme Court. The DA said the decision was made in consultation with Laci Peterson's family.

    However...
It's not clear if prosecutors could again seek the death penalty if there is a new trial and he was again convicted, said defense attorney Pat Harris, who is handling the death sentence portion of the case.

I'd like to see a new trial. There was too much  media coverage and the jury wasn't sequestered for the first one.

"If the maneuvering leads to a formal coalition agreement, it would be an uneasy alliance between eight relatively small parties with a diffuse range of ideologies. The prime minister's post would rotate between two unlikely partners: Mr. Bennett, a former settler leader who rejects the concept of a sovereign Palestinian state and champions the religious right -- and Yair Lapid, a former television host who is considered a voice of secular centrists."

The Washington Post reports Netanyahu called the plan "the fraud of the century."

"The ongoing Flint water case against former Gov. Rick Snyder (R) is relying on an investigative tactic so rarely used that some legal experts aren't familiar with it," the Detroit Free Press reports.

"Known as a one-person grand jury, the process is cloaked in secrecy."

"It involves the appointment of a single judge to review evidence out of public view and decide whether charges should be brought. In contrast to the way most criminal charges are brought, using a one-person grand jury alters how evidence is turned over to defense attorneys and delays their ability to cross-examine witnesses."

I'm sure there's not going to be credit for time lost, unfortunately. Because the Constitution itself sets the date for inauguration. But he should definitely get the remainder of his term and make the best of it. That's for sure," Powell insisted.

Powell is facing a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems over her false claims about the company's alleged involvement in a plot to rig the election for Biden. In response to the lawsuit, Powell's attorneys said in a March court filing related to the defamation lawsuit "that reasonable people would not accept" Powell's statements about the 2020 election "as fact."

It's being made by a federal judge in the Southern District of New York and by Fox News's own lawyers in defending Carlson against accusations of slander. It worked, by the way.

Just read U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil's opinion, leaning heavily on the arguments of Fox's lawyers: The "'general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that [Carlson] is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary.' Speaker Nancy Pelosi "is ruling out a presidential commission to study the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, telling House Democrats on Tuesday that having President Joe Biden appoint a panel is unworkable even after the Senate blocked an independent probe last week," the Associated Press reports.

"Pelosi laid out possible next steps after Friday's Senate vote... The first option is to give the Senate another chance to vote on the commission."

"The other options involve the House investigating the attack, meaning the probes would be inherently partisan."

"I hear all the folks on TV saying why doesn't Biden get this done? Well because Biden only has a majority of effectively four votes in the House and a tie in the Senate, with two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends."

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) told the Arizona Republic that she missed a procedural vote on a bill to establish a commission to study the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection because she had a "family matter."

    She did not elaborate.

    Pressure Grows on Joe Manchin

"Democratic leaders and activists are urgently stepping up pressure on Sen. Joe Manchin to support legislation to fight Republican-led voting restrictions across the country, with party officials increasingly concluding that the battle over voting rights could come down to what the centrist Democrat from West Virginia does," the Washington Post reports.

This is ridiculous of course but I think the choice of August might be a clue to what he knows is coming.  I think he expects to be indicted by August if not before.  Now he can say he was indicted to stop his impending reinstatement.

Her comments do not come in a vacuum either. A number of Trump toadies have made similar comments before and during the QAnon conference that was held in Dallas, Texas over the weekend.

reason Trump's blog was ended in just two Scaramucci's --- to allow His Orangeness. to gear up for the rigors of his next insurrection.  This refutes those who question his beautiful business prowess claiming his blog went the way of Trump steaks and Trump vodka.  He is still big, the blogs got smaller.

about the malleability of the public mind that if they actually have to do something beyond skimming FB and tweeter, like read a blog, they can't be bothered to do it.

Makes the responsibility of those companies even more urgent.  People are ignorant sheep.  Spoon feeding them hate all day every day is a bad idea.   Generally.

is hard.  Easier to understand and remember if a cryptic tweet or a FOX talking point.  And, too, the Orange blog did not entertain comments. A big part of the drill is to respond to the liberal comments, so as to own them.  Makes their day.

    It was good

The final episode of Mare of Easttown limited series drew four million viewers over the holiday weekend across HBO and HBO Max, with nearly three million viewers Sunday night (all platforms), marking a series high for both linear and digital, according to HBO. The finale also set the record as the most watched episode of an Original Series on HBO Max during its first 24 hours of availability, besting the finales of recent hits The Undoing and The Flight Attendant over the same period of time.

Mare of Easttown also joins The Undoing as the only series in HBO's history to see consecutive growth week-to-week. Viewership still is expected to grow further via additional telecasts and digital viewing.

I thought it was very good. Kate Winslet was excellent. Hearing her talk as Kate Winslet rather than Mare of Easttown was fascinating.

I usually know about something before I watch.  And honestly it did not look or sound like something I would like.  but I did.
    EMMYs are coming I think.

Now I'm watching a three part adaptation of Death and Nightingales on STARZ that's very good.  And I just finished a series on EPIX called Condor which is a sort of remake of the movie Three Days of the Condor.  Which is very good.

I feel like I have won against the church goers and tee totalers of my little town after years of combat.

we got our first head shop.  Right on Main Street

And it's pretty deluxe. It pains me a little that the whole operation has been such big money capitalist story from beginning to end and not much like the utopia I imagined wide spread pot usage to bring.

In fact the same person owns the head shop who owns the dispensary.  Good vibes: Hardy mother and daughter operate marijuana shops

Good vibes. Whatever.  I'll take it.
