I do not believe this country or the states within it will ever order another lockdown. The vaccines are essential for everyone because they protect others as well as themselves. Yet vaccine resistance is still a "thing" in some parts of the country (mostly rural Red states and those in certain professions (prison guards).

There are a lot of people who are not relieved that the vaccines are 90-95% effective because they believe they will be in the 5-10% group whom the vaccines fail to protect. While only 50% of people in the country have been vaccinated, we are being asked to assume everyone without a mask has been vaccinated, including people we don't know in elevators, airports, jails, office buildings etc. Social distancing used to be #3 in importance after washing your hands and masking. Now we're down just to wash your hands.

Our politicians have decided to put the economy over saving lives. The plan now is to learn to live with COVID-19 and its variants as if it's a seasonal flu and hope enough people get vaccinated so that the dangers of becoming super-sick or dying from it is as low as possible. We must now learn to cope with an "acceptable" level of risk of death. Instead of eradication, the U.S. has chosen a policy of accept and try to minimize. We'll see how that works out in the months ahead.
