What did the Republicans accomplish in their disgraceful public display of aggression during the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson? They ensured that Democrats, to include Sen. Joe Manchin, will unite in support of her.

I only watched a smidgen of the testimony -- when Ted Cruz was leading the charge with his chart of sentencing statistics on her child p*rn cases, but wow, did he make an as* of himself.

The other thing I noticed was the superb coaching Jackson got for the hearings (as do all nominees these days). It must be really hard to sit there poker-faced when some horse's as* is trying to bait you with one absurdly worded question after another.

    to KBJ's responses would actually have learned quite a bit about how federal criminal sentencing works, and how (good) judges think about sentences in individual cases.

    about other legal discussions but they would not have held my attention.  And it was not that subject I mostly heard her explaining.  That's when I turned it off.

    She definitely has a way f making confusing and complicated things understandable

    I think Miss Lindsey's question, on a scale of 1-10 how religious are you, was the daily winner.

    I would never have expected to hear that question in a confirmation hearing.  Is that even legal.

    Actually, no, it is probably the only question that is explicitly off limits, per the U.S. Constitution itself.  Article VI, clause 3, states:  " ... no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."  (A religious "test," in 18th Century terms, is a requirement that a person state under oath that they subscribe to a particular religious persuasion or belief preferred by the government.)

    know this but Greitens did a recording stating that McConnell and Karl Rove were out to destroy him.

    D's certainly dodged a bullet with him choosing to become a Republican.

    Missouri, my home state, has some real winners to choose from the Republican slate. This violent, abusive and sexual predator and the gun toting lawyers that would love the excuse to shoot black people. Boy what a campaign commercial that would make. Probably win them the nomination, hands down.

    is beating GA all to heck these days. Republicans here as you know are big on insider trading. But the minute Kemp brings all this up the Republicans start screaming he's using Dem talking points (he is actually) against Perdue. My wish is that the GOP civil war here in GA is so bad it takes out every statewide elected Republican.

    if he actually will get the nomination even after all the ugliness is revealed. Apparently kidnapping his hairdresser has not deterred them enough to keep him from leading in the polls.

    Do y'all have any sort of runoff or is it the one that gets the most votes is the nominee? Here in GA 30% would cause a runoff between Greitens and whomever is behind him in votes.

    You get the most votes regardless of the percentage and you win.

    I would like to think that if Greitens gets the nomination, the state will elect the Democratic candidate. I would like to believe that but I sure wouldn't bet any money on it.

    I am dumbfounded on how the country went crazy over the last 20 years but then I think about Fox and realize there are millions of Americans who have been brainwashed by Fox.

    IMO we need to stop making excuses for people.  Saying they have been "fooled" or "brainwashed".

    FOX is a business.  It gives people what they want.  It's how they make all that money.

    I was just reading this article about how the Republican party has been taken over by Q.  It has.  And democrats have to stop acting like it's normal and it will be ok.

    We have to start being as ruthless and aggressive as they are or we are going to lose our country.

    Good place to start, stop making excuses for fascists.  Nobody has been brainwashed.

    Yet, in certain parts of the county if you are anywhere where a television is playing, Fox is on nonstop. Not only are people inundated with Fox on a daily/hourly basis, they are surrounded by people at their jobs, at their church and all social events who repeat the crap that Fox promotes as the main focus of their conversation. It is kinda like trying to avoid catching the plague when everyone around you has it.

    One thing is for sure, too much exposure to Fox rots your brain.

    I doubt anyone who knows you or has met you would consider you typical. (meant in the nicest way). Artist types are normally not usually the greatest advocates of following authority figures and norms. Unfortunately, too many people are more easily indoctrinated than you are.

    I do know people who were once moderately conservative who now have become true believers after years of being surrounded by that crap. That's all they hear.

    I believe you know people who seemed moderately conservative to you.  But they never were.  They had been taught, as many many on the right had, to not say the secret part out loud.  At least to you.

    IMO one thing we can thank Trump for is ripping the mask off these people.   They are all talking now.  

    My request is simple.  Stop making excuses for uncle Clem and Aunt Roo who always seemed nice until Trump.  People should be expected to take responsibility for their beliefs.  They are not children.  They did not have a collective stroke

    I guess they were happy during Bush 2.  The guy who literally stole the presidency with the help of the SC.

    Look, of course FOX feeds the crazy.  But how can you not see it is a symptom?  A very profitable business.  Business does not become the industry leader by converting people to scary news ways of thinking.

    They make money by giving people what they want.

    The state of our country is not the fault of FOX.  FOX, and NEWSMAX and OANN and Alex Jones, are the fault and the result of the state of our country.

    If anyone honestly believes removing one or all of them from the airwaves would change anything ....
    then they do not understand the problem.

    I know from asking that in some if the places like waiting rooms FOX is seen as the "middle of the road" because the people in the know really want NEWSMAX or OANN.

    certainly have been exposed to "these people" during my life, most of them before Fox or even right wing talk radio even existed.

    I am not arguing that hate and bigotry would not exist without Fox, I am just saying that without the constant validation and rabble rousing by the right wing media these views (to my eyes at least) were fading away or certainly not growing.

    Fox is not the disease, but it surely is a major vector that allows it to spread.

    I agree with what both you and MO are saying. I have an aunt and an uncle who watched Fox and Fox did nothing to them. They already had those views.

    Then I have my stepfather who when my mother married him I was like ugh, he took her to tea party rallies etc. He was obsessed with Obama taking his guns etc. but Trump came along and Fox went in the trash and now he is a completely normal person. It has been an amazing 180.

    So IMO Fox is like crack where the already addicted go to get their fix but it also pulls in people who were not previously crackheads and turns them into them.

    But at this point so many of them are so far down the rabbit hole that there is no help for them. If Fox & talk radio went away tomorrow they would still be far gone. And these days they would find somewhere on the internet to spread their conspiracy theories.
