Biden Pardons Family Members and Scores of Others

On his final day of office, President Biden issued scores of pardons to family members, congresspersons (Liz Cheney), Anthony Faucci, and others who have been threatened or targeted by Donald Trump.

Trump made a slew of threats before the election. He hasn't stopped. Biden today said:

“My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me—the worst kind of partisan politics. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end,” Biden said in a statement released as the inauguration ceremony was underway at the US Capitol.

Biden stressed that those receiving pardons had not done anything wrong.

On Friday, Biden commuted the sentences (none / 0) (#1)

of 2490 federal inmates serving overlong sentences for "nonviolent drug crimes" that would be shorter under more recent criminal law reforms. One of my clients was one of those, receiving a prison term cut from 415 months (37.6 yrs) to 280 months (23.3 yrs). Still a long sentence (which he has done about 12 yrs of already), but one he can live through.
Also, Biden this morning commuted Leonard Peltier's life sentence from imprisonment to home confinement. A political cause celebre in the Native American rights movement over 40 years. And a posthumous pardon to Marcus Garvey, whose five-year sentence was originally commuted by President Coolidge after 2-1/2 yrs, conditioned on deportation.
