Bump and Update: More Moussaoui testimony today:

Confessed al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui said Thursday it made his day to hear accounts of Americans' suffering from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and he would like to see similar attacks "every day."

He mocked the military witnesses at his trial for crying.

"I think it was disgusting for a military person" to cry, Moussaoui said of the testimony of Navy Lt. Nancy McKeown. "She is military, she should expect people at war with her to want to kill her." Asked if he was happy to hear her sobbing, he said, "Make my day."

He said he hopes the attacks on America continue.

Moussaoui said he had "no regret, no remorse" about the 9/11 attacks. Asked by prosecutor Rob Spencer if he would like to see it happen again, Moussaoui responded: "Every day until we get you."

And he expects Bush will release him before the end of Bush's term and he'll return to London.

Spencer tried several times to get Moussaoui to say he didn't really believe that, but Moussaoui was insistent. "I haven't doubted it for one single second," said Moussaoui, adding that the vision came to him in a dream just like his dream of flying a plane into the White House.

My view: He's crazy like a fox and intent on getting the death penalty to avoid life in prison. He would love to go down in history as being the person responsible for the 9/11 attacks. He'd be a martyr. With life in prison, he'll fade into obscurity at Supermax in Florence, Colorado, known as Alcatraz of the Rockies.

We're back on the Moussaoui death penalty trial, now that the prosecution has rested and the milking of the tragedy of the 9/11 victims is over.

Moussaoui testified today, and ripped his lawyers.

He said defense attorneys are motivated by the desire for fame. He also criticized his lawyers for not seeking a change of venue from the Alexandria, Virginia, courthouse -- about 10 miles from the Pentagon, which was attacked on September 11, 2001.

"You have put your vested interest in keeping this case in your hands, above my interest to save my life," Moussaoui said in response to questions from defense lawyer Gerald Zerkin, according to the AP.

More on the defense case is here. The defense also will be calling convicted "Shoe Bomber" Richard Reid. He has been flown in from Supermax in Colorado where he is serving his life sentence.

    What a nutcase. Sounds like a major contradiction here. Last time he seemed hell bent on lying in order to secure his own death sentence.

    To me it's not a contradiction, only a risky strategy to ridicule the overall system. For once I have to say that I agree with almost everything he said today. There was no attempt to relocate the trial, however the defense team did try to get a Muslim attorney to join the team but in vain. I guess ZM's taste and the FBI requirements couldn't agree. In any case it's totally insane to watch such a display of vengeful victims' families when the defendant is the wrong person. This is a masquerade, it is not justice. America is certainly not improving its image on the worldwide scene. What a lot of BS at the taxpayers (great) expense...

    Moussaoui voluntarily said he was guilty of the charges against him. What did the gov't have a hard time finding a jury that knew nothing about 911.Enough Already.What a waste of time and money.

    JRT, she was agreeing with his comments about the unfairness of his trial. A reading of earlier comments of her's on other threads would make that clear I think.

    The man is crazy. Insane. His lawyers should have used the insanity defense. The death penalty (which I dont' believe in) is beyond wrong here.

    dudes (and dudettes) if mickeymouse says bush will free him, he's obviously crazy. The state doesn't kill crazy people anymore ... does it!?

    he is just flat nuts. yes, he wants to have the death penalty applied to himself so he can be a martr. At the same time he believes he will get released. That sort of delusional thinking is common among the psycotic. As far as the insanity defense goes, the defendant has to authorize any defense of that nature. You can't just file it against his will. It is just about moot anyway, as the mental illness defense died as soon as Hickley was acquited. If he is really nuts, they won't be able to execute him till he is sane. To that end they can force him to take antipsychotic medication until someone finds him sane -- then they can execute him. It all makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

    I think we ought to just keep him on trial forever. These Moussaoui updates rival Sadly, No! posts for making me actually laugh out loud, and not just phony-internet-LOL. Oh, and the judge should be the Iraqi Information Minister.

    JRT, Before you get disgusted with Caramel, you should pick up on what he or she is saying. Moussaoui was not involved in 9/11. He is a pathetic individual who is not only willing to testify against himself but is also willing to lie in order to be executed so he can be a martyr. You can't listen to the 9/11 tapes without being moved. However, it is because I believe in justice for these victims that I insist that our government not create scapegoats.

    Moussaoui believing Bush will free him is almost as deluded as anyone thinking this is anything but a show trial and Moussaoui a patsy.

    Charlie - glad to see I'm not the only one! BTW, it was Ricky Ray Rector who had an IQ of 70 who Clinton sent to his death in 1992. Still, as long as the savages are happy... To anyone with any sense, Moussaoui testifying is the best thing for his defence. He is clearly mad. He probably wouldn't have agreed to an insanity defence because he is insane. I have little faith, however, in common sense prevailing.

    Let's remember that Mr. Rectors' mental state was due to a self-inflicted ballistic lobotomy, so his case was a lot different than the usual "low-IQ" cases that appear in the press from time to time.

    Edgar-I think that is not narius's problem. Yes having priapism can lead one to violent and deranged behavior as is is very painful, but our friend suffers from a bedwetter trait that is much less rare. What he needs is either an implant or a lifetime supply of sildenafil citrate. Maybe then he can get some relief from his chronic disorder. Once functioning as a normal man his unfettered bloodlust will wane as will his nightly bedwetting.

    I do understand though that he seems to only have the priapism when he thinks about killing someone, and especially when anyone mentions Bush, but that the women all think he's such a cute little thing...

    Point taken from The Dark Avenger that Ricky Ray Rector's mental retardation was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound inflicted after the homicides he was found guilty of. He was not the best example of insanity/poor mental abilities not being taken into account in capital cases. But there are many other cases that more accurately draw attention to this phenomenon and it is a pertinent issue in this thread. I should mention, though, that Rector was guilty of two homicides. The first was of a doorman after an argument over $2. The second was the police officer who came to arrest him for the first, immediately after which Rector turned the gun on himself. Rector shot himself in the head, but failed to kill himself. All this suggests that Rector was a man who was not entirely compos mentis to begin with.
