DNC Chair Update: Carville Quote

The Wall Street Journal reports:

NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN: Charges of coziness with Republicans mark Democratic chairman's race, from ex-Rep. Roemer's past opposition to Clinton's economic plan to ex-Rep. Frost's 2004 re-election ad touting ability to work with Bush and Hastert. As candidates prepare to court committee members Saturday in New York, some veterans fear the spectacle of chaos. "It's supposed to be a rigged deal," grouses ex-Clinton strategist Carville.

Dems are still defining themselves firstly by what they oppose? That's what got 'em here in the first place.

Lifenews is reportin' that Dean has it locked up. Th' report goes and says that while th' Dems are debatin' Dean is quietly securin' support behind th' scene. Makes me wonder why H Clinton came out tryin' t' find common ground on abortion th' other day. At first I shrugged it off as an early 2008 campagin' stump speech test run, but if Dean really is startin' t' close ranks behind him then she may be comin' out as a contrarian t' him t' position herself as th' natural leader if he fails t' meet expectations in 2006.

The Democrats have to realize that they have to define what they are, not simply offer lukewarm opposition to the Republicans, in order to start winning again. Dean knows what he stands for.

yes because we know the Rpugs stand for war, restriction of civil liberty, denying basic civil rights and hetero cartoon characters. At least they have clearly defined themselves

If you think Hillary talking like a republican is going to get her elected in 2008, then you probably should see how well the repub lite talk worked for Mr. Kerry. Dean talks like Dean. His message will move the electorate if he can get it out. We shouldn't even bother responding to the repub attacks against him, just keep talking the message, it has legs. He might be the democratic Ron Reagan who can reinvent the party. You go, Howie.

et al - Do it. The Democrats should define themselves as what the far left wing of the party wants. Me? I'm going to Las Vegas and get some money down on the next election. And it sure isn't going to be a bet for a Demo win.

Carville's exasperated Freudian slip is proof positive of how innately corrupt the DNC/DLC bunch has gone...and illustrates starkly just how badly the Dem leadership needs new blood.

And if Dean is selected, is he then corrupted?

Che, you know as well as I do that there has grown up an entire 'machine' within the Dem party that has pretty much turned it's back on its' base in hopes of illusory victories by courting those who know better than to trust them...namely, major corporate donors. The ugly fact remains that the original base of the Dem Party is inimical to the goals of those it presently is trying to court. The old 'labor versus capital' dispute is active here in all but name; the Dems are piss-their-pants scared at even whispering the words 'class warfare', when in fact that is the reality they are confronted with. A reality they are assiduously trying to ignore. Dean means to shake up that machine; those who are presently being fed from it are not likely to relinquish control so easily. If he wins, he will have to engage in a purge to clear all the old McAuliffe installed 'equipment' out before he gets a clear shot at remaking the Dem Party. I expect to see political blood coming out from under the closed doors soon...and it may very well be Dean's.

Dean is definitely the most sincere democrat on the national stage. I like the calm intelligence of Obama as well, although I think 2008 may be too soon for him. It is too early to count the dems out on the presidential race in 2008. Look at Dubya's Dad, King George the first, he had a second term all wrapped up, victorious in Desert Storm etc. Then came Perot and Clinton along with "It's the economy Stupid" and submarined the second coronation. Let's see if the dems get any traction in 2006, Americans really like divided government and Dubya's second term is an anomaly due to 9/11. Let's see if after 4 more years of Bushology what the country will be in the mood for. Right now I don't see any republican other than McCain who has a good reputation. In '08 Dems will beat Rudy or Newt handily.

Nemo, Agreed. I would rejoin in a nanosec if Dean got in and started a purge. But I am not optimistic. Look what the media does to him and the sheeple follow. I can't believe people would dismiss this man based upon something as ridiculous as an emotional outburst. Maybe he can form another 3rd party to take Nader's place. Because the Dems are by now just a bunch of Republican wannabe's

Che, in my estimation, they are worse than that; they've become Republican footmen, living examples of all those old lawn statues painted to look like Black folks, in red livery holding outstretched lamps. Instead of acting as democracy's shop stewards, they've sold out for middle management positions in the SCA - ScrewAmarica Combine.

The Wall Street Journal has some of the best reporting around on torture, detainees, the war. It's just the editorial page (an reporters bashing bloggers) you need to avoid.
